Clutch Kit Cost?

Postby W4GNIT » Thu Feb 26, 2015 12:26 pm

Hi Guys,

I started getting a squeeling noize from the clutch recently and when I took it in to my mechanic he said it was the spigot bearing and suggested that with the amount of labour involved in replacing the bearing alone I might as well replace the clutch while the gearbox is out. He just sent me a quote for the job totaling $1700.50

Whilst I try to be loyal to my mechanic as he is a friend of my brother I feel for this amount I should look around. Thoughts?

The $600 for labour seems reasonable enough, how does $1040.50 sound for an H6 Clutch kit.

Any advice and/or other places in Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne which might do a better deal?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

Call Jim Berry at RaceClutch
about $1100 gets you a much better quality and longer lasting kit, plus a flywheel
and Jim's "if it's my fault I'll pay to fix it" warranty

You will be able to save a couple hundred by buying the parts onine:

http://www.amazon.com/EXEDY-FJK1000-OEM ... B001B57M3G

You'll be able to find a flywheel pretty cheap as well, off memory you can get flywheel + clutch for around the $600 mark.

In my area, standard labor for an install can go anywhere from $500-800+

My advice would be to buy the parts yourself, and take it to the most convenient shop for you that fits your budget.

The quote seems reasonable for the work to be done. Just check that it's a genuine Subaru clutch kit as $1040 seems cheap. Also can anyone confirm if the H6 has a single mass or duel mass flywheel?

Single Mass on the EZ30 Engine
3.0R is the engine code.
(Dual mass was used on EJ25)

3.0R was auto Only
3.0R-B was single mass 6MT

for $600 that would be an Exedy Kit or similar.
You need to confirm if it's the Good Exedy with OEM part #'s and multi-spring clutch plate
not the cheapo, "aftermarket replacement" rubbish with single spring which are noisy and rattly

So the manual H6 has a single mass flywheel, that's great. Mine has 150,000Klm's on it and I can feel that the clutch is begining to feel different under foot, replacement time will be a Jim Berry unit.

Your right about the EJ25 having a duel mass flywheel, my son had the clutch changed in his 2.5 Impreza from the OEM duel to a single mass version and it completely changed the way the car drove. With the duel mass wheel it could pull out of turns at a slower speed and in a higher gear without stalling or shuddering, changing to the single mass wheel now means that you need to be in lower gear for the same turn. The duel mass wheel seemed to give the car more torque at lower speeds whereas the single flywheel lacks that low speed pull. The upside is that with the single mass flywheel it spins up quicker to the redline.

Is this the same as the turbo clutch?

If so, what is wrong with OEM? I thought OEM was best. Mine is at 125K so not sure longevity is an issue considering I have heard them lasting much longer.

Beware of the clutch disc size.
The 2.5 litre turbo models with 6MT have a 10mm smaller diameter clutch disc. The H6 is 10mm larger.
Check the Exedy website.
http://www.exedy.com.au/clutch-finder

H6
Size 240 Spline OD 25.2 No. of Teeth 24
2.5 DOHC-TC
Size 230 Spline OD 25.2 No. of Teeth 24

A number of the ebay sellers are promoting the 230mm HD kit for the EZ30 H6 units?
Buyer Beware.
Cheers!

Bookmarked

Trying to find out what type of clutch flywheel setup I have in my my07 h6 6mt

Apparently need to know
1) Push Type or Pull Type clutch?
2) Flywheel: 230mm with 2mm step down? (usually the Push Type)
OR 240mm with 14.6mm step down? (usually Pull Type)
3) Stepped Flywheel or not? (I guess that applies to the previous Q)
....THE WHITEWASH....

The Excedy site refers to kit FJK-7737 for the H6 6MT models with the 240mm diameter clutch plate
The site then refers to two kit options for the 2.5 DOHC-TC GT-B models; FJK-8294 at 230mm diameter and FJK-8658 at 240mm diameter.

The opposedforces.com site lists the same Part# for the Clutch Driven Plate for both 6MT models?
Part Number 30100AA930.

I replaced mine with a Clutch industries kit. It runs the 240mm exedy disk used in the sti 6MT and a slightly heavier duty than stock pressure plate. Works well so far. Only have about 5000km on it so far.

Got that at cost price, so my entire clutch replacement job cost me NZ$1000 all up.

This is the disk
