2008 3RB 6MT centre diff repair

Postby SubMeister » Tue Feb 24, 2015 5:38 pm

My centre diff has packed up, I've ordered the replacement part from Yuki at Japan Parts ($700 landed), and have a service booking in fortnight at Cromwood to install the new part.

Question: do I also need to have the silicone "goop" changed to complete the repair? Is this something a specialist like Cromwood can do or is it just a Suby dealer only job?

To what "silicone goop" do you refer?
If you refer to the viscous coupling fluid then this is generally not replaceable and the new centre differential (or centre viscous coupling) will come pre-filled.

It is generally the failure of the fluid that causes the centre differential to fail and require replacement.

Yes it's that's the fluid I meant, and your explanation answers it, thanks.
