just looked over the logbook of the car and seems that the major service at 100,000-140,000k's wasnt done (just oil and filter) so that could explain the misfire.
Plugs are probably well and truly gone

I suggest cleaning the AVCS solenoids as well

I disconnected the battery and took it for a 70k drive yesterday. no codes as yet.
The missfire is because i dont think the plugs have been changed (previous owner only done oil + filter changes since 100,000k's).
How hard to remove the solenoids?
I took off one of the banjo's and didnt see the filter in there that can cause problems

10mm bolt on the top of each timing cover. Wiggle out the solenoid and clean internals with brake cleaner.
They jam open and too much oil pressure over advances the cams

cleaned out the solenoids today, didnt seem to be too dirty/clogged
Was only maybe 1mm of travel when i pressed a screwdriver against the spring, is this normal?
ALso, the engine appears to have an irregular ticking/tapping on one bank, possible this is just the misfire from old plugs?

Your logs are clean but always worth cleaning them

Can be. Any irregular cam timing will throw out the combustion wvent
