Cheaper in the USA.
By the way, the Tridon part (on ebay) is more expensive than the genuine Subaru article.
Cheers!

Did mine today , hard work !
thanks to finding this site
had to stop and buy the crows foot spanner ,
couldnt get enough grunt with my collection of short or bent 19 mm
its in tight !
getting the old one out is only half the fun !
sourced my replacement from repco which took 3 weeks and the plug is wrong :( so i would advise against that
and still no lights ! :( :(
according to the multi meter the old switch was not working so now i just have to chase wiring
bad light stopped play

I bet you had the most fun you can have lying on your back trying to get the new switch to start threading into the hole? LOL.
I thought that I would run out of patience before I got the switch to thread?

The normal 5-Speed box has a similar switch but with a different electrical connector. Maybe this is what Mr REPCO Man provided you?
I do not know if the remainder of the switch (body length and actuator pin deflection) is the same.
The switch I used was a genuine Subaru article for the 6MT.

Anyway, with your multimeter do you get contact closure with the new switch when in Reverse?
This might mean getting under the car again?

If you have got contact closure at the switch then start chasing the wiring.
If you wish a screen shot from the FSM for the switch wiring diagram for H6 send me a PM.
Cheers!

My reverse cam needs a few wiggles of the gear stick to kick in occasionally...

Is that a symptom that the reverse sensor is failing?

Before the switch was changed the lever had to be held hard back in the reverse gate to get the switch to work.
If you are needing to wiggle the gear lever then "yes" it is a symptom of the back-up lamp switch on its way out.

Great because the odds are stacking up that I'm replacing my clutch soon (and getting an STi torsen lsd installed) and the reverse switch replacement will be a gimme. :)

Before the switch physically makes contact it creates a small arc which over a long time and a lot of use makes the contact points 'dirty' and eventually it will not make contact at all as in my case stopped working entirely

I did take a peek at OpposedForces and the 5mt is not listed as compatible with the 6mt reverse sensor.
I could not find the 5mt sensor part number so perhaps search online or ask a parts translator at eg Makin & Luby or your dealer for the p/n vs your vin :)

Or take a peek at the manifesto on nasioc :P

Picked up a crows foot set and got it done over the weekend. Painful as mentioned above. Thanks for all the info, made it easier.

Only thing I can add is that it is easier if you give the wires coming out of the new switch a quick 90 degree bend so that they are facing directly to the rear of the car. There is some ribbing on the gearbox right behind the switch and the wires will catch on it, making it hard to keep straight while you are trying to engage the thread. Lots of patience required.

I cheated, I had my mechanic change the switch. Gave him the switch and told him about the possible trouble in getting it done, forgot to tell him about the crows foot spanner, anyway rang him in the afternoon and asked how things are going? he said they were still trying to get the switch out, lots of swearing to Subaru for the stupid location for a serviceable item, mentioned the crows foot spanner and he says "I completely forgot about that spanner" 15 minutes later it's in and done. Really is a stupid place to put the switch though, the mechanic told me that 5 speeds have them on the side of the gearbox much easier!

As I said I cheated.
