I think my head gasket is going -time for forged internals?

So a few weeks ago, I had my car sitting at idle (letting it warm up) while still talking to a few members at a meet before leaving.
Another member noticed my car's temperature was slowly rising.
By the time I got in the car to drive off, the needle was almost at the top before the "danger zone" :P
After a minute of driving, the needle went down at a steady pace and my engine went back to ideal temperature

Is my head gasket possibly on its way out?

Now, for part B of the thread.
If it is on the way out, while the engine is out and pulled apart I may aswell spend the extra $$ and go forged internals.
I was thinking pistons, rods, head studs. I don't want to go all out on a crazy build with sleeve work and what not... Just the basics that could support a nice bi turbo set up of two disco potato's, ID1000'a, 320lph fuel pump (might be too big?), custom exhaust to suit. I already have an upgraded clutch to handle extra power (a bit over 200atwkw)

Just after people's opinions

Are or were your car's cooling fans working properly?

EZ30 engines do not have the endemic head gasket issues that the EJ25 engines had with overheating.

Yeah, I heard them kick over and running, but the needle was still increasing

Check your thermostat Simon

And the forged engine will still cost you a bit to do properly even without sleeves. I would suggest you speak direct to PMS (robin) or serge in QLD. Or if you like I know the guy in Windsor that most performance workshops send their shit to for a premium - one of the only blokes left that knows what he is doing.

For the extra 2.5k I would sleeve and be done with it knowing it will take more power/ torque

That's definitely food for thought Mick, I have read a few horror stories with sleeving but I guess that comes down to someone who knows what they are doing

Do it.

Forged and sleeved with a big single or 2 disco's with 10-12psi each on pump and have 400 kw atw and lots of SKIDS!!

Any updates on this? Coolant leak/air lock? White smoke while idling?

Not at the moment, I won't get to have a look at the car until next weekend.

I'm over in Perth for the next few months for work, but thought I would post up this thread just to see what people might think it is
