EZ30 and STI 6-speed

Postby Manaz » Mon May 12, 2014 10:36 pm

Hi all,

A mate has some ideas around a supercharged EZ30R, and wants to know what the gearbox options were on cars with this engine. Did the EZ30R powered Liberties come with the STI 6-speed, or can an STI 6-speed be fitted to the back of one?

If the latter, is there much involved such a change?

Cheers all!

STi long ratio 6 speed. Near indestructible. See Purdy's car on E85 running 10psi.

Sweet, that's exactly what he was hoping for. :)

The actual box itself is the STi unit but with shorter 5th and 6th gears relative to the post-facelift offerings. The real weak point are the diffs - open front diff, and viscous centre and rear diffs. The box itself is solid and can take a heap of power without breaking :)

I think you guys are mixing pre and post facelift 6 speeds up

Preface 3.0rb 6 speeds are NOT the same as wrx Sti 6 speeds. Various differences.

Post facelift 6 speeds are almost identical bar 6th gear, final drive reduction ratio and front and centre diffs

I haven't had any issues with my 6speed since going down the s/c path, but I don't treat it like shit.

My stock clutch on the other hand is struggling badly  ...

Me too, 1st - 5th ratios are awesome for daily, although id luv 1st to be taller. Also much nicer with new tight genuine Sti short shifter.

My stock clutch is still holding up everyday wise and power runs with no harsh treatment. Spins its arse off with any dumping abuse.

Lucky I have the Berry sitting, waiting to go in. :)

I am looking at fitting a short shifter but I'm uncertain as to exactly which part to get as there are, as has been mentioned differences between gearboxes depending on the age of the car. My car is an 04/05 any recommendations regarding a supplier would be welcome there are currently 3 of us in the uk looking. Found a company called AVOJDM which list a part number but waiting to hear back from them.

You can switch to STi 6speed without trouble, just make sure that fd fits to the rear diff.
You can use the DCCDpro TCU to controll it - is it worth -> YES perfect driving....

Iirc the adm (long ratio) GR+ STi 6mt with 41/59 full open torque split, is most similar to the BP/BL 6mt as both use a 3.54 rear diff.

Any 6mt compatible short shift kit can be used but if not lgt specific (eg Cobb lgt sts) a 25ish mm 5ish mm diameter spacer tube must be used to shorten the reverse lockout cable.
