Quad Tip Mufflers for 3.0R

Postby MH3.0R » Sat May 03, 2008 9:11 pm

Guys,

Got some new quad tip mufflers for the baby last week. They are Hitech but acquired and fitted by STI@Docklands. These are not the original STI Mufflers from Subaru, due to the $3800 price tag. These are a local equivalent at $1350 fitted.

Love the new sound and look. V-Tune booked for Monday to see if there is any appreciable performance to be had, though not my prime motivation for getting them.

Have a photo in .pdf version if you want to look.

Kind Regards,

Mark.

$3800????? Mark where were you looking at the STi mufflers???

Should be way way less than that.

Good work with the Hitechs. Post them up!

I wanna see how much difference you get with that V tune thing, as Im interested in getting it done to my car as well. Would like to hear your feedback on it.

Phil, $3,800 is the new dealer price for STi mufflers this year. If you check out http://sti.subaru.com.au you'll see what I mean.

I think it used to be like the mid $2k's last year, but I guess they up'd the price evern further. Gez.

From what I read, the VTune should benefit you about +15kw. With HiTech mufflers only, gains on top of the VTune should be minimal at best. Say about 2-3 kw?

Quad Tip Mufflers for 3.0R after V-Tune

Postby MH3.0R » Mon May 05, 2008 8:44 pm

Guys,

Had the V-Tune done today after all the recent changes, Hitech Quad Tip Mufflers, HKS Panel Filter, Resonatorectomy and OilExtreme Additive.

The dyno results indicate a 3 to 8 KW spread from 3000 rpm to 6000 rpm. Peak power is now at 131 KW at 6000 rpm. Torque remains flat with a peak of 3400 N at 2350 rpm all the way to 6000 rpm. Very usable and smooth.

I would say most of this is attributable to the Hitech Quad Tip Mufflers, but cannot say for sure. Some of it may be the HKS Panel Fiilter and some from the Oil Extreme additive.

So that is about it for me in the 3.0R engine department, unless there is a way to supercharge? I have seen those nice pics on the NextMod site so it has been done, just wondering about the quality and reliability. Has anyone got the details?

For the pictures of the Hitechs, the best I can do at this point is the avatar.

Kind Regards,

Mark.

3specB,

I think you can expect about 10% improvement in torque and power across the rev range from 2500 to 6000, that is what I achieved with just the V-Tune and prior to any other mods.

All the other mods added collectively to 4-8 Kw through the rev range from 2500 to 6000 rpm. Peak Power improvement was only 3 Kw on top of the previous at 6000 rpm. Torque remained unchanged, so the power distribution arrived earlier in the rev range.

I can email both dyno results if you want, just send me a message with your email details.

My ride is a 3.0R 5AT, so your spec B 6MT should achieve around 140 Kw at the wheels with just the V-Tune, but talk to the boys at STI to be sure.

Kind Regards,

Mark.

Hey Mark,

Could you please tell me how much the V-tune cost you? I just wanted to find out current pricing on the 3.0RB's (since u had this done recently) as there seems to be a few varying prices reported out there...

i think it was around the $300 range.. but i'll let MH3.0R double confirm that price range!! I think it is fairly good value.. and i really want to get it done for that price..

Can we just send Vin up here to do it through a local subi dealership? I'm sure a few of the brisbane boys would ensure he is compensated for his efforts :)

With v-tune, do they really need the car to tune? carnt they just have the computer of the car and put on a tune?

Well a flight to brisbane on Jetstar can be had for about 160 return. Im sure if you got say 5 people that were definites you could put the case to him.

Alternatively if he won't come to you, it would make a good roadtrip.

Sorry for the late response. This is the first time I have logged on to the site for more than a month.

V-Tune from the boys at STi Melbourne are priced at $250.00. If you have not had a recent injector service, they also do the Injector Power Flush which adds another $100.00.

After each mod, I took her back for another V-Tune to check the "bang for buck" and the V-Tune wins hands down!

Kind Regards,

mark.

If your local suby dealer has a dyno, then it may be possible, otherwise all you can get is the mapping without considering the actual and real characteristics of your specific vehilce. The Dyno is also a way to spot some specific problems when abnormal results are recorded. In my opinion, it is better to have the STi boys do it or someone very familiar with the suby range of engines and performance.

Mark.
