Help me please - Misfire Codes

Postby Coomzy » Thu Jan 09, 2014 6:23 pm

Howdy

So I own a MY07 Spec-B with a H6, the car has done 112 000kms and I'm getting 3 cylinders throwing misfire codes.
P0302,P0304 & P0306 so all down one side of the engine. Had them cleared, they came back, then disappeared and now its back.
Typical car runs fine, CEL on, cruise flashing, stuck in (s).
I have searched high and low on the net, people changing plugs, coils, injectors, cam or crank sensors, O2 sensors etc.
This seams to be a common problem with these engines. I have seen one comment on here by Matt from Kido saying that the
bank 2 sensor 2 O2 throws a closed loop code that would cause these codes to come up.
So I'm going to get that sensor checked, but thats the real only positive feed back I've heard about this issue.

Anyone come out of this delema successfully??

I've got an identical car, same symptoms except my 1, 3 and 5 cylinders misfired. Same issue, but mine occurred first before my 100k service. Got the 100k done, hoping it might stop whatever it was from happening. Seemed to do the trick for about 20k or so but then just the other day it flashed on again. Yesterday it did it again and remained on. Took it down to S&J and they hooked the laptop up and disabled the errors for those cylinders on the basis that they'd know if anything more serious was going on.

Would be interested to see what everyone else says though.

I don't know if this is a coincidence, but I've had it ECUTEK tuned and always used BP Ultimate petrol. On the two times that this misfire has occurred, I've been stuck in the middle of nowhere and had to resort to using Mobil or Shell petrol. A week or two later, this misfire has occurred. Maybe two coincidences, as I wouldn't think a misfire would be caused due to slightly different petrol being used than what it's used to/tuned to.

Im getting the same problem. Taking it in to a new mechanic on Wednesday to see what he thinks the problem could be.

Hope he can solve it.

Mines misfiring in 1,3 and 5 and when it does misfire the car feels jerky for a bit sometimes its barely noticeable other times the whole car kinda feels like its skipping.

Having owned a few Audi/VW group cars I would immediately suspect a coil pack. My MkV Golf GTI chewed through them, although only one would fail at a time
and i'd get a code for a specific cylinder. Seems unlikely all three would fail on one side at the same time!

If it was my car, I would take out all the coil packs and put them on opposite sides.
Then see if you get codes for misfires on the opposite side of the engine than before.
If the misfires go to the other side of the engine, then you have faulty coil packs, if they
stay where they are at least you didn't waste money on stupidly expensive coil packs

The only other thing I can think of that would affect all three cylinders on the same bank would
be the A/F (O2/air fuel) sensor for that side. When my passenger side A/F sensor died on my EZ30
the car would fell like it was misfiring though I never got any codes.

So I would also suggest maybe swapping your A/F sensors (front side of catalytic converters) to see if
that moves the misfires. Really easy to get to if you have car ramps.

Hope this helps! :D

Well my CEL went off, no rough idle was running like a dream, then it came back on...
Finally today got a scanner put on it and now all 6 cylinders are misfiring, codes P0301 to P0306. Got them cleared but still have rough idle.
On my way home I was driving in manual mode and after a while the CEL was flashing so I put It back into auto and it turned off, then I put it into cruise control and after a while
the CEL was flashing so I switched c/c off and the CEL went away. WTF!
I had the maf sensor cleaned but the rough idle is still there.

I'm going to take it to a Subaru specialist when I get a chance but won't be for a couple of weeks to try and get it sorted as this car is our family bus.
I'll keep you guys posted but in the mean time my mrs is stuck with my WRX with the baby seat in the back, but luckily I've got a bunky to drive to work so the lib is gonna be hard parked for a few weeks.

Funnily enough I am getting the same issue. Getting codes on cylinders 2, 4 & 6.

I'll be looking at it throughout the week, I'll post my findings here.

Old thread I know but I have the exact same issue with 1,3,5 all throwing the misfire code at the same time. MY07 Liberty Spec.B 3ltr. This can occur 4 - 5 times after clearing the codes in a day or maybe twice a week.

Also getting the P0420 error from time to time and also but before i go replacing all the o2 sensors and CAT converters I wanted to seek the communities advise.
