Hi Guys. Anyone else had this before? It comes and goes in intensity and just started out of the blue yesterday as I pulled out of a parking spot.

They all die eventually. It just means it is on its way out. They are quite pricey new, something like 800 + labor, or you can have them rebuilt. Mine cost about 400 including labor for a rebuild in Brisbane.

Yeah you're probably up for a new one depending on mileage

Was the noise only when you were turning? I have noise from my power steering when turning close to full lock and the car has just been started. It's not audible once the car warms up. I guess mine is on the way out too

Thanks guys. Noise is worse when turning. It disappears for a while when your not maneuvering or making sharp turns. Then reappears after you've turned at an intersection, done a uie etc.

I guess I jinxed myself. The car was in for it's 100k service and the mechanic said, has it been reliable, and I said, yeah great, no problems. Then I drive away a go, hmmm, what's that noise?

I have 2 Liberty's and both have the noises you're describing ... I've ordered 2 new pumps from garage88 for them to replace my faulty ones...

was thinking of getting it rebuilt due to costs but they'll go at some point ... and it could be half the life of the original... in which case you'll need to rebuild again... then it equals the cost of a new one minus the hassle and the labour...

Our cars are reaching an age where the power steering pump rebuild will be due soon.

Mine too has a slight noise. It's serviceable at the moment but I anticipate a rebuild sooner or later.

Not too expensive a fix.

My GenIII and GenIV both do it but the GenIV is worse.

The GenIII's can get noisy just from a belt re tension when the shaft bushes are a bit worn, causing the seal allow air in the system.
A reco-ed pump was about $175-200 and a genuine one is, wait for it...............................$1900!!!!!

I flushed the oil on the GenIV and replaced it with synthetic DextronIII and it seems to be a little better.



Guess I'll be re-building a couple of pumps sometime....
