Hey everyone, just recently bought a second-hand white 3.0R Spec B, but i'm extremely confused about which fuel I should be using.
I've been doing some research and I am still very confused about different octanes.etc.
My dad told me I should put e10 in, but he's a cheapskate, and I'm not putting any fuel in my car that is of any detriment. In saying this, I'd still like to save as much money possible!
I did read that although e10 is cheaper by the litre, it's cheaper to run unleaded. The first time I drove the car, I noticed was slightly more responsive, and stalled less, than my recent refill with e10.

Please help me, somebody.

you shouldn't be buying a performance car if you are going to put the cheapest shitty fuel in it....

In my opinion Run it on 98 and nothing less.

You need to run 95ron as a minimum on the 3r's/3rspecb's.

If the E10 you are using satisfies the min 95ron rating your car requires then all good, if not then change.

Remember that not all E10's are the same accross each servo. From memory the ron rating are displayed at the bowser for each type of fuel.

If you can afford to drop $20K on a car then you should use the best fuel available, not the cheapest.
given the terrible factory tune in these and some reports of them blowing big-ends, 98RON BP Ultimate is my only choice.

spending $5 extra a tank in fuel is a lot cheaper than a $3K bill to replace your bottom end.

I agree with the other guys here. We're running performance orientated cars, with relatively high compression ratio's. the last thing you will want to do is put cheaper, less efficient (combustion, kJ/mol) fuel into an expensive motor.
E10 is less a problem for modern engines, but I personally won't run it.
Also don't skimp on maintennace.

This. It is the OCTANE rating that's important, not what the fuel is made from.

By all means use E10 if it has a 100RON octane rating, but don't go using any less than 98RON.

try sticking to one type octain fuel too so if you run 98 stick to it or if 95 that

Stick to BP Ultimate 98. When i bought my 3.0R Spec.b the chick was running it on shell v-power and getting 17L/100, I've been running it on BP Ultimate 98 ever since and I get 13L/100 when i drive like a maniac. and 9L/100 driving to and from frankstone for uni.

In terms of what company, as far as i know BP is the best by far. We race rescue boats at my lifesaving club, and the only fuel that every club in the state uses is BP Ultimate... and i think that says enough about the other companies. Apparently everyone besides BP uses thinners to get it up to 98.

Vortex 98 from Caltex will perform similar to if not exactly the same as Ultimate 98.

+1, the only fuel I've used since I've owned the car (over 14 months now).

I had big consistency issues with caltex98 a few years ago.
the issue is, Caltex98 basically has additives mixed with normal 91RON to make it 98 or 95.
It's only mixed in small batches (i.e additive added to the truck or wharf storage tank)
and i was having heaps of issues with excessive knock in my old Fozz.
Switched to BP on the advice of my tuner, knock gone and I could squeeze an extra degree or two of timing across the board.

I used to run 95 in my 2.5t, but found the economy improved running 98, and its smoother. Mate with a new to him 3.0rb Specb was also running 95 - getting high 8.? L/100k, or into the 9s on a trip. When he moved to 98, comsumption down closer to 8. For us the improved economy offsets the extra cost.
