Hey guys, neat forum you have going here! I recently purchased a 2007 liberty auto 3.0 spec B with 110,000 k's and I'm loving it so far.

I just wanted some recommendations for what viscosity of oil I should be using. The owners manual mentions 5W-30 but I was recommended by a Repco employee that a car with my milage should be using 5w-50.

Do you think this is the right choice? I've purchased (Mobile 1 Advanced full synthetic in 5W-50) but ill wait for you opinions before I start.

IF there Is a better brand and weight of oil I should use, I will just swap it over.

Cheers James

There are a lot of threads about this specific topic (naturally)

Have a search.. Here's an example.

viewtopic.php?f=16&t=12227

By the way... This is a bit of info for everyone reading this.. If you want to search something thats <= 3 letters then it won't work.

In which case googling 'site:forum.liberty.asn.au enter search keywords here' works a treat.

Hey thanks for the fast reply,

I've already used the search function and gone over a few threads already.

I guess i was looking to see If anyone had used 5W-50 specifically as it isn't mentioned in that thread. I might just try 5W-40.

I use 10W-40 Magnatec or 15W-40 Magnatec Diesel.

Still get good fuel economy and NO oil consumption issues

Prior to supercharging I was using 5w-40 with no oil consumption. After adding the supercharger, I was seeing a little oil consumpton on the 5w-40.

Have since changed to 15w-40 diesel and oil consumption has stopped. Economy is great and the car still pulls like a freight train :D

Last night I put in Castrol full synthetic 5W-40 and installed a new filter, seems to run smoother and pick up revs a little quicker now (I may just be imagining a difference haha)

I will update if any problems arise.

I use Castrol 10W-40 Magnatec

Does all the right things when cold, same when hot and NO oil consumption. It is an oil with very reliable service characteristics when used in Subaru NA engines. Its very economical to purchase as well

By process of trials it seems to be best oil for the H4s when supercharged as well, I believe it could be the case with the H6 as well

Sorry 2 come in a bit late. When I got my 3rb at 75000kms it had Valvoline syn in it and for my 1st 2000kms it chewed a bit of oil- up 2 500ml

Dumped it out with a flush and replaced with 10 - 40 Penrite full syn n filter of course. Have done 4000kms since with no oil consumption at all. Oil remains a nice colour
with with plenty of redline thrashings. :D

Lib was kido tuned after oil change and maf clean. Just my 2c

Mobil Delvac MX 15/40
has awesome oil sheer strength and has a high detergent to get rid of all the carbon deposits that the ez30R is well know for.
Used it in the last 2 NA subarus and 500hp gc8 track car.
