2005 liberty spec b, 165,000 klm
just spun a main bearing,
which way would you go.

rebuilt motor, 5,000 klms, fitted and installed $3,800, 6 months warranty, fitted & built by subaru mechanic.

second hand motor, 84,000 installed $3,000, condition unknown, 3 months warranty.

keeping in mind, do i use the first option and keep the car, or use second option and sell the car.

i have just put new tyres, all new bilsten supension, brakes done and air con serviced + lower arm bushes.

how long will you be keeping the car? those items replaced would be good selling point or good for a rwc if you do sell it

I would think option 1, but why is someone selling a motor that was rebuilt only 5,000ks ago? and what proof is there that it was done only 5,000ks ago? I would ask more questions about how "rebuilt" the motor is before committing the $$ too. Ask WHO built the engine, what exactly was done, etc. So many people claim a "rebuilt" motor on something with nothing more than bearings and rings, which is far from a rebuild.

But if it checks out ok, then go with option 1 and keep the car. You're unfortunately a long way out of pocket now so may as well keep driving and enjoying the car

booked in. option 1 going ahead after researching a hell of a lot.
motor prices varied from low 3's to a fully new rebuild for 10k.
told dont source wreaker motor due to time spent idle, repairs will climb, ie water pump and parts that need circulation, no good for a motor to sit idle for years.
i have seen my new motor on a cradle in the workshop ready for the install.
i'll let you know how it go's.

Picked up this morning and WOW
this motor goes so hard, i'm thinking prob 40% stronger, just pulls and pulls.
ended up replacing the clutch as well, so all up $4,600.00
I can highly recommend this workshop, based in Rydalmere.
