drivebelt rubbing on timing chain cover

drive belt rubbing on timing chain cover. it is not constant there is just marks on the timing chain cover. any ideas what could be the cause?

Tell me when you find out, my car has them as well, quite significant marks with plenty of rubber left behind

I suspect the tensioner spring is slightly weak due to age, it certainly doesn't occur on most but on a few only. I have not noticed any adverse effect on belt or this issue causing any other problem, but it certainly takes your eye when you are having a look around your motor.

Other brands of cars - some in particular, have auto tensioners that weaken significantly in just a few years requiring semi frequent replacement.

yeah when i saw it i was shocked never ever seen any car have that problem. yeah my drivebelt looks perfect i was reading the h6 repair manual theres a certain mark the tensioner goes past which is like a indicator and it tells you if ur tensioner is gone or not seems to be ok though
