Towing with 3.0R-B 6MT

Hey guys,
I'm thinking of towing a camper trailer on a holiday this year. Towing time would be about 20hrs. Camper trailer weight is 680kg.

Just wondering if anyone here has some experience towing a decent weight behind the 3.0R-B (or any 3.0R) with the 6sp manual transmission?

How does it go for torque in 6th gear on the highway at 100kph?
Any dramas with the suspension & lower ride height of the 3.0R-B?
Other comments?

Appreciate any feedback.

Cheers,
Deucer.

Towed a boat plenty of times, and a kart trailer every second weekend. No problems, 6th if fine to cruise on the flat but you will need to drop to 5th if you want to maintain speed up hills. My Ski boat weighed about the same as your camper as it was lightweight and set up for racing but my fishing boat was closer to 1000kg if not more with the camping gear on board.

Cheers Craig

Thanks Craig. That's the kind of feedback I was hoping to hear... but getting it first hand from somebody elses experience is always good medecine! :-)

Incidently, (and a little off-topic) how do you find your towbar affects handling on the race track? A bit more tendency to oversteer? I presume you have the genuine Subaru unit?

Cheers,
Deucer.

Yes, I've towed my MGA (which weighs about 960kg, on a car trailer which probably weighed about 400kg itself, so nearly 1400kg total

Not a problem. Of course acceleration and braking took a bit longer. The most noticeable difference is starting off, you really notice the lack of torque below 3000 RPM. Once you're moving it's fine.

Not if the trailer is correctly balanced. The tow bar does say "max 90kg down force".

I doubt it would have much effect at all, so long as you remembered to uncouple the trailer first! ;)
