Engine Swap 3.0h6 - 3.6 h6

Postby Liberty.94 » Wed Nov 07, 2012 3:24 am

Hey guys! I have a 3 litre spec b 05 wagon and it's got a few km's on it now but i want a bit more power and i've found some turbo kits for a 3.6 h6 motor. However i want to do an engine swap to a 3.6 h6 but I'm not sure if i need to replace the engine block, new gear box, i know new ecu but i'm not sure also if i need a new dash? help would be awesomes

You just need engine and ecu.The gearbox will fit, engine is just 2-3 cm larger than 3.0. But the power you will gain is not so much. I would prefer a supercharger install - much more torque and hp.

How many km's on your H6? these engines are a really strong build and if serviced regularily, will last a very long time

I'd also be looking towards the Raptor Supercharger kits for the 3.0 engine if you want a bit more power

3.6 H6 is just a stroked version on the 3.0 (exact same engine, just increased displacement)

3.6 outputs at 191kw, 3.0 outputs at 180kw.

+1 for supercharge the 3.0!

3.6L has DUAL AVCS, so need the 3.6L ECU, along with the full CAN loom, transmission control unit(auto urgh!) and a bunch of other gear. It is NOT a simple swap into a pre facelift. I have swapped one(and about to do 2 more) but they were all 07+ cars being a late model Foreter and two new shape STi's

Alright, well fortunate enough my 3 litre is auto so could i just do a swap with a new ecu? i don't really mind because i want to put a turbo kit on the 3.6 litre motor. purely because I have found cheap ez36 engines with lower km's which are cheaper than getting an engine rebuild in my area and i already have a manual legacy B4 twin turbo as my weekend drive.

Need the 3.6 ECU, accelerator pedal controller, ABS module, transmission control unit, dash cluster, airbag modules etc. Essentially, you need to buy a written off EZ36 car and swap everything(including the auto) and this is purely as the car has CANBUS which means everything is connected

If your car was an 07 onwards, would only need the ECU and TCU a car has CANBUS already

Ok, then the 3.6/3.0 is just 2-3 cm bigger than the 2.5/2.0L. But i didn´t realized that you have an auto - so much work.
Sh..., that my car has no CANBUS - no chance for simple swap if the sc will blow my 3.0 engine :(.

I am not sure but I thought the 3.6 didnt have variable lift, but of course it has variable timing on both cams

KiDo ...... tell me if I am wrong on this .........

Correct, dual avcs lets you retard cam timing to improve powerstroke crank energy and optimise overlap too

So my car being a MY2007 ( built December 2006 I think ) facelift Spec B, will have Canbus? So I can just grab a motor and ECU and swap it all?

@KiDo_tuning said we need the TCU too, but my gearbox is the 5eat, don't the later cars with the 3.6 engine all have the CVT gearbox? How is the CVT TCU going to work with a non-CVT gearbox? or because I have Canbus my existing 5eat TCU will work together with the 3.6 ECU?

Sorry to rise a dead horse haha, so what you're saying is if I have a manual transmission all I need for the swap is the engine "ez36" and ecu for the ez36?
