Hi peeps!
I had a inspection of my car before I brought it (well worth the money)
.......Items requiring attention........
- right hand rocker cover gasket (H6 engine)

could some one please let me know how much a mechanic will charge to do this?
or would it be cheaper if I brought the gasket my self and took it to a mechanic?

thanks guys!
:)

cost of the gasket isnt your worry.
Its a lot to do it properly. I had the same issue with the right hand one leaking.
To take the cover off, you need to lift the engine out. so labour cost is a bitch in this circumstance.

I will concur with the others

You need to have the engine removed from the car - take a look, there is NO room beside the engine, you cant access any of the bolts that hold the cover on.

You can only barely change the rear sparkplugs, it is IMPOSSIBLE to remove cover.

Engine out! I guess a days labour to yank the motor fix the gasket and replace motor

It is easy engine to work on for things on top and things underneath but impossible on the sides -- which unfortunately being an opposed motor means most of the important stuff is sideways

Rebuild to toughen it up for a turbo or supercharger with high psi :D

You don't need to take the motor out.

You can undo the engine mounts and use a jack to jack up the right hand side which gives enough access to do it in car. This is the best way for ease of access and time saving.

I did a Tribeca without even jacking up the engine, I did STi rocker covers without jacking up the engine also. It's the quickest but can be a bit tricky. I'm pushed for time at work so this is the best choice.
