hey guys i have a liberty 2007 spec b everytime i rev it past 3.5k i get a really really bad egg smell. and then sometimes when i let it idle it gets a different type a smell i really dont know what it is. any ideas?

Smells can be caused by: grease, oil or coolant burning on the exhaust, check for engine or gearbox oil leaks, check for coolant leaks, check for CV joint grease leaking onto the exhaust.
Smells can be caused by head gasket leaks or incorrect air/fuel ratios.
Smells can be caused by air con leaks, moisture in the HVAC system or a dirty pollen filter.

Where do you smell the scent, in, or outside the car. with the air con or heater on, or off. does it only happen with the engine hot, or cold, or both.

The more info you give the more accurate response we can give.

That was what the dealership said when I was looking at a Spec B a couple of months ago... I was asking what happens if you put the wrong fuel in and he said exactly that... rotten eggs...

not so much the wrong fuel
it's the huge amounts of sulphur in the lower grade fuels

when you burn it with oxygen, you get Sulphur-dioxide.. a.k.a. rotten egg gas

I'd put it down to fuel. I know that I get this smell very faintly every now and then after giving my car a bit of a poke, but it's very inconsistent.

I used to get a smell like this in my old car (not subaru), whenever i used Premium (98) fuel. If i used 95 or the lowest (92 i think?), i wouldn't get it at all.. Weeeiirrdd.

i use 98 all the time either v power or bp ultimate. its a really really really strong smell from the exhaust when i first got the car it wasnt doing it and iv owned the car for around 2months i want to fix it. only does it when i give it the beans

It could be a bad batch of fuel or dirty fuel system/ filter.

Try the Subaru fuel additive and see if it helps the smell or makes it worse (helps to clean the fuel system)

I get this but its more of a Burnt Oil Smell rather than rotten egg, after giving it some stick or idling on an incline for a while.

At first I thought it was the Oil getting low (thats what happened the first time) again but the oil problem seems to have fixed itself after my roadtrip across Australia.

yeah well il probably replace the fuel filter due for one anyway. has anyone had experience doing them??? do u need any special tools?

No special tools. I did a writeup somewhere. I think ric put it in the walkthroughs section

thats a pretty good walk through thanks heaps. i dont think its going to fix the problem though
