Hey guys,

I'm getting heaps of clutch slip and I think its time to bite the bullet and replace the clutch. The clutch in there at the moment is from factory and has done 160,000km. Good effort I reckon.

Anyway, Im unsure if i should splurge and get the HD (Exedy). Has anyone had experience with either of the two? (FJK-7737 or FJK-7737HD)

The car is a daily drive and i spend quite a bit of time in traffic. Is the HD a 'heavy' clutch under foot? Will the HD transfer the torque more effectively?

OEM sounds like a winner to me, particularly if you drive in a lot of traffic.

Go the Oem. A clutch should be a fuse for the gearbox, a hd will only destroy the gearbox instead of the clutch itself

PM Brainy as he just fitted a HD Exedy to his 6speed liberty and all reports is he is happy with the clutch pedal feel.

The exedy HD is the next step up from OEM and will not destroy the 6speed gearbox.

I think your confusing yourself with the weak 5speed m/gearbox.

Hey guys, just came across this.

The exedy HD clutch is a little heavier than stock but not overly heavy? I drive it daily on the monash and then through peak gridlock, so i'm constantly either holding down or up and down on it.

I actually prefer the feel of it vs the stock one, but it's a personal preference.

Speak to a clutch specialist and they'll tell you about exedy fluff clutches.

Go OEM Exedy, or OEM h6 6speed pressure plate, heaviest STI flywheel you can find, and AP or sachs plates.

Short and sweet advice from one of our build specialists! Personally, I would go with this advice. But then again, I drive an auto, so what the hell would I know!

n00b alert questions:
Is it a matter of buying the parts, and giving them to someone for the install?
Can anyone recommend a clutch specialist in Melbourne to do this?
Or can any competent mechanic install a clutch?

Why not try the Exedy head office in North Melbourne http://www.exedy.com.au/default.aspx. Someone else on this forum has also recommended them but I cannot recall who.

Any workshop can install a clutch. They should also be able to source you the exert clutch you desire

Can you summarise what the problem is?
I've just had an Exedy HD clutch installed also. It only took a day or so to get used to the heavier pedal.
I don't have any complaints about it now. Should I expect problems?

is yours an OEM Part Numbered Exedy or the generic "OEM Replacement" Exedy.

big thread on ricenet for the last couple of years regarding an off-throttle rattle from the "OEM Replacement" Exedy's
basically a poor spring design that rattles.
and the friction material of questionable quality (pretty much just some old rope they had on the floor according to Jim Berry)

I spoke with Jim at length (you have no other option, he likes to talk) about the clutch for my 3-RB and the benefits of what he was offereing for only a bit more coin than an OEM unit far outweighed the ifs, buts and maybe's of using anything else.
Benefits of the JB unit
-Sachs Clutch kit used as a base
-Jim double skins the friction material (more of it. so longer life, more heat resistant)
-Customises pressure plate fingers for application while keeping OEM or better feel and pedal effort
-supplies (on exchange) matching/ machined and balanced flywheel with clutch attached/ marked for easy fitment

I see guys here spending $500 on an STi lip but then cheap out on something as important as a clutch
I'd rather the e-bay copy front lip and fit quality mechanicals
