Oil Leak (oil pan seal?) (was a split CV boot)

Guys,

Mate of mine is having some issues with his 3R-B.

Theres an oil leak (pics below) in the engine bay. Liquid looks grey'ish (praying its not the milky oil tell-tale signs of a busted head!)

Anyone got any ideas?

Looks like the CV has split and is throwing oil out whilst driving.
Check the boot on the CV and you'll probably find a tear.

+1 for the CV boot, the colour gives it away. Not to mention the splatter.

Rob.

Your CV boot rubber is DONE. Get it to driveline services or a garage who can get it changed for you

Motor will be perfect as always!

Confirmed CV Boot (thanks guys, as always a wealth of knowledge!)

It's got a hole in the side big enough to stick your finger through!

Anyone got any further info on parts cost? :)

+1

Probably costs more in labour than the actual boot itself!

I wound the window down to be breathalyzed. My thoughts went from "That's O.K. I'm stone cold sober." to "My god what's with the smell of burning oil? Forget blowing in that thing, quick help me find what's wrong with my car." Turned out to be split boot splattering grease all over the hot exhaust.

Got quoted $100 for both front inner/outer boots, and 3hrs labour $99/hour - so all up should be a "cheap" $400 fix!

Funnily enough the pics are of my mates car, and when I went to change my gearbox oil the other day I noticed mine is starting to leak too - so will end up getting mine done after my mates :)

So, I can now smell a very faint burning oil smell coming from the rear of the car after a bit of a drive...methinks one of my CV boots has split a little. Time to tend to the minor inconvenience :alcoholic:

Mines just gone. Started with a funny smell then the next day on startup smokey smokey. Had a look underneath and sure enough grease splattered and a tear in the boot. Will try to do this at home. Shitty timing as usual.

Is this a standard item/part no. across all Libs?

No,
Gen3 and Gen4 are diferent boots.
Your inner CV joint has teh scallops in the outer body, so the CV boot needs to be moulded to suit.

Suggest Febest for a working replacement.

Buy two while you are there, bocoz the other side will fail within 12 months.

Thanks Sir Corgi. Ordering as we speak.

Oh one question, are they same for 5MT and 6MT? I'm guessing so.
