Will see what happens on the return trip today. I'll be using Shell 98 today.

Also booked in for Kido tune on Thursday night...Can't wait!! Hoping these will be better on future trips...

So, an update on todays trip. Albury to Marulan via Canberra using Shell 98 with the air on most of the way....8.4 litres per hundred and around 720km expected from the tank according to Distance to Empty - about the same as the trip down.

But here's where it gets interesting. I had about 1/3 tank left at Marulan and knew i couldn't get home on what I had, so a top up was required.

I filled up at the Caltex with 95, not 98, and headed for home with a blend of 1/3 98 octane Shell and 2/3 95 octane Caltex.
Even with the going up and down hills on the Hume Hwy between there and the Blue Mountains i managed 7.6 litres per hundred - a personal best without really trying. Air on, cruise on, same conditions as the rest of the weekend, the only difference is the fuel combination. And the Distance to Empty for the tank if all remains the same should be around 830km.

I only run Shell 98 in my 3RB, only run Shell in all my Libs since Ive owned them. Found it to be the best. But everyones opion on fuel is different and working in the fuel game personally I know what I like for my vehicles.

Having said that, when I drove mine back from Sydney > Melb I filled up in Wodonga with 95 Caltex as thats all they had. And then again I filled up with Caltex 98 when I got home (As it was right around the corner from home). I found their 95 more economical than their 98 (Strange).

I'm actually wondering weather the truck driver doing the fuel deliveries accidentally dumped 98 octane into the underground 95 tank and 95 into the underground 98 tank, and I got a dose of the good stuff for a price of the not so good stuff :-)

I've had the Kido tune now, so next time I do the run south I'm expecting much better figures again.

I am doing an average of 12.44l/100km over the past 7200km on a stock tune. Most of the driving is spirited around town. It drops to 10l/100km on the open road. I log all of my fuel consumption and cost of running so I can work out how much the car really costs to keep on the road. Currently @ NZ$0.58 per km including a new set of rubber and some coilovers that I have not actually fitted. That drops to NZ$0.36 without those.

With the trip computer, when it finally displays "0kms" of fuel remaining, how much fuel is actually there? Usually the computers are a bit conservative so I figured someone on here would have sussed out how they can squeeze every last litre out of it....

When your fuel light comes on you generally have 5-10l left depending on what car your driving.

Only done that once before and drove one more KM into a petrol station. I should have filled it to the top to see how much I had left, but i'm a fuel tightass.

I tested it for myself this morning. Got it down to "0" kms until empty and filled up after a couple of kays.

I put in just over 60L. So as I suspected, its slightly conservative by a couple litres to keep you out of trouble.

+1 . With about -30km’s, there was still over an inch left in the tank. I reckon you would get close to another 80km’s depending on how much the pick up can suck out of the tank.

Just bought my MY07 Spec.B 3.0R wagon shows 14.6l/100 and higher that's a V8 consumption wow! Don't get me wrong i love this performance engine but surely that's too high. All my driving is city, stop /start and running shell 95. Had a ECU light come on the other day nice surprise, had it checked at dealer now my cats are gone.

While at dealer i decided to do a 75K service, that's minor oil and filters. Now my fuel Eco is 12l/100, i think my cats are also contributing to bad fuel consumption. Organizing to replace my cats will keep you posted to see if i get better.

not sure how much I trust my cars computer, From what ever level i fill up at i use the click noise as my baseline, then use my trip computer in the following equation.

Litres Filled/Distance Traveled (Km) x 100

I find my computer says around 12.5 but the calculation shows high 11's.

for example my last trip i filled 55 litres and travelled 470 km's, This results in 11.7L/100k's while my computer said 12.4L/100k's

Keen to get my kido tune done and see the difference :)

SAVE YOUR MONEY... it is not the cats. It is just the rear O2 sensor being hot during winter. Anyone with a Tactrix can disable the code.

Thx, so your saying nothing wrong with my cats, i mean car has only done 77K for gods sake. Is it safe to drive the car? Can i drive it hard? Should i change my O2 sensors? Dealer told me they had another car with same problem on the same day, it must be a common problem.
Your KiDo tune, what do you do exactly? Cost? Do i get better fuel economy and power? Can i get it done in melb? im in the north. thanks
