Even well run-in, my auto H6 will head towards 18l/100km if I'm driving from, say, Newtown to the city then over to the beach, then back via the bottle shop, corner shop, then down to the local park. Esp if the a/c is working hard. Short runs, esp when you are basically never cruising at a constant speed, will always net worse economy.
To compare, my wife's car, a 1.6 litre manual officially rated at 7.6 l/100, gets high-11's in the sort of driving the Lib (10.9 l/100km) gets 17-plus. Yet on cruises, I equal or better other Libertys - including 2.5 litres in moderately brisk country running.
Try running a few tanks of Vortex 98 - this gave me consistently better consumption than any other blend.
