Your car is a thirsty mofo, you must have a huge lead foot.

My average fuel consumption according to the puter is 10.7 though it has been as good as 8.9 Highway and as bad as 27.8 Winton

maybe, i don't rev it that much in normal city driving, and i can't go fast anyway because of traffic. i rarely go over 5000 rpm. Usually the engine is kept between 2000 to 3500rpm during normal driving.

No offence champ, but for me to get the car drinking on average 15+ Liters/100 i would have to be giving the car absolute curry. On recent cruises where the car very rarely dropped below 4000 rpm my average fuel consumption was 13 to 14.8 Liters per 100 and i was giving it an absolute hammering.

Even when my mum drives the car she get around 16L/100, so there is something wrong with the engine? I will definitely get it checked after the new year then

What sort of driving are you doing?
Stop/start city traffic will always be bad in a heavy car.
Constant 100 km/h on a freeway should be good though.

Even well run-in, my auto H6 will head towards 18l/100km if I'm driving from, say, Newtown to the city then over to the beach, then back via the bottle shop, corner shop, then down to the local park. Esp if the a/c is working hard. Short runs, esp when you are basically never cruising at a constant speed, will always net worse economy.

To compare, my wife's car, a 1.6 litre manual officially rated at 7.6 l/100, gets high-11's in the sort of driving the Lib (10.9 l/100km) gets 17-plus. Yet on cruises, I equal or better other Libertys - including 2.5 litres in moderately brisk country running.

Try running a few tanks of Vortex 98 - this gave me consistently better consumption than any other blend.

I drive the car to uni and back, the trip is about 15km long eachway and it takes about 1 h to get there cause of the traffic. I don't use air con at all. It averages between 16.0 to 16.4 L/100.

Actually i think the car uses even more petrol when i started using Shell V power, i will give Vortex a try when i drive pass a Caltex station

ok i gave Vortex a try, fuel consumption is down from 16.2 to 14.8. I think it has something to do with a little less traffic on the road.

I do notice the engine doesn't have as much low end power as when i was using Shell V-power.

Ok after a tank of Vortex, i am switching back to V-power. The engine is quieter, smoother revving, more power low down, generally the engine is more responsive. The fuel consumption went back up to mid 15s now with the V-power.

3.0R fuel consumption

Postby MH3.0R » Sat Apr 12, 2008 6:05 pm

I run my 3.0R reasonably conservatively, with the occasional squirt off the lights and achieve 9.2 L/100K (indicated) and normally 550+ kms per tank.

I have had a V-Tune (dyno) and Injector Power Flush at STI Docklands with no loss of economy and a 10% improvement in power and torque at the wheels.

With some of the figures indicated in these posts, I would think you should be looking at some immediate maintenance/tuning.

Kind Regards,

Mark.

General driving I get around 12l and freeway driving it goes down to 10. So im not sure how that works.

To me it feels like what ever the trip meter thingy comes up in the first couple of kays is what it ends up with as well.

My average over the 7,700km's I've owned the vehicle (now 35k on the clock) is 10.73l/100km. It drinks Caltex Vortex 98 or BP Ultimate 98. Driving is usually 70/30 city highway.

Best recorded consumption was 8.84l/100km. That was all highway.

Worst is 13.6l/100km. That was fully loaded with family and towing a 900kg (approx) camper trailer into a strong headwind all day.

Interesting side note, the onboard trip computer used to jump about a fair bit prior to running a tank of Nulon fuel injector cleaner. Now it's setled down. Will be interesting to see if that returns any improvement to fuel economy over time.

I've also noticed that the onboard trip computer tends to read 0.50l to 0.70l/100km over the actual consumption, unless I'm on the highway for most of the tank... then it's pretty much spot on.

Cheers,
Deucer.
