even tho subaru recommend 5w 30... would there be any harm in swapping over to 10w 40? one major plus side is that 10w 40 nearly half the price of 5w 30

10W40 will work fine, it won't cause any harm.

Bursons - Surprisinlgy good. Use it in all the cashies I do, and I used it in my gen 4 after the rebuild.
Castrol - Alot of manufacturers recommend it and its good oil.
Nulon - Best. Kitted out my ute in Nulon, will do the same with my Gen 2.

Quite a few mates use Penrite, they are slowly converting me. Bastards. (This may even be for the Gen 2...)

Certainly do, much like Repco, but better. IMO its on par with Castrol, but some people want a brand name so I use castrol.

I've been using Castrol Edge 5W-30 for the last 130,000km(car has close to 250,000).Would it be ok to change to Magnatec 10W-40?

Any benefit for the higher k engine?

I've been doing some reading through the older topics and it just seems to be a big argument that goes in circles.

A 10w40 will be fine. Probably help a bit with cold start wear due to the age.

What would be your first choice in brand? Castrol? Nulon?

I like nulon and penrite, depending which mate I'm buying from. Castrol I've always used through work and in cash jobs, great quality for the price and easily obtainable, most auto stores carry it.
