Changed the oil and oil filter today, i only put 6 litres in and then measured it and it was perfect on the top F dot!

my oil has started to go a bit yuck in the last couple weeks and i seem to be losing a small amount too. At what point on the dipstick should i be worried about engine damage or anything like that?

Its best practice to keep the oil topped up to the correct level, dont ever let it run low really.

Buy a liter and keep it on hand, add about 200ml at a time and then recheck the oil level, repeat until its at the correct level

it will be good when someone open the hood to oil check,to check and antifreez position.when the engine is cold it has to be 2 -3 fingers down the max..between min and max.

Excellent tip. I checked mine Sunday morning - EMPTY!!!! Refilled, but fluid overflowed, long story short the radiator cap is no longer serviceable, rubber cracked n perished.

New cap ordered through Subaru - 3 day wait for it to come into stock!

For Libz - on request

Here is a post on "How to check the oil"

1. Engine at operating temp
2. Dipstick has the yellow handle on top on passenger side at front of engine
3. There is a low/high mark on the dipstick, best up near the high :)

For 95% of everyone, stick to the factory recommened viscosity, most brands will do the job just fine.

Most of the Melbourne dealers use Castrol Magnatec 10W40
Note, you will need two bottles! It's about $36 per 5 litres at Supercheap right now. http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online ... x?pid=1733

most dealers in Europe recommended MOTUL and SUBARU oil(ARAL) -

I use penrite 5w 40, also a friend came into my work the other day who used to have a RX that had everything on the engine that you possibly could, and he was saying to me that I have to be very careful about the bottom ends of these cars, especially because mine has done a few more k's, now he has made me paranoid haha, is there anything I can do to prevent the bottom end dying, apart from the obvious frequent oil changes? Thabks

The bottom end is robust if there is oil of sufficient quanity and quality in the sump
