Hi guys,

i have the 5 speed auto and i decided to test out its top speed. i hit about 180 before it ran out of steam and seemed like it wasn't gonna go any faster. i read somewhere it has a top speed of about 235. just seems like it should go a bit further than that before it starts to struggle.

also almost got beaten at the lights by a holden astra so im worrying about how much power im missing and why haha

how do others fine the 3.0R with the auto?

first up mate talking of speeding and what you hit is never a good idea, i hope you have a flame suit ready for some of the other members on here who might not be as kind towards this behaviour
unless you did it on a private road or racetrack/dragstrip etc

as for the 3.0, manual > auto by about 1000000x
faster and makes for better launches

Heads up mate hope it was on a private track, no one here condones glorifying hitting 180 on a public road.

Did you just get your license?

I have a manual and I've had mine faster than what you are claiming as the top speed although I don't want to say too much after the previous response, but it was on a closed road with no other traffic.

your the reason us p platers can't drive turbos, boo to you

i never said it was on a public road im just asking how people find the performance of the auto gearbox

I found out that the 6MT will reach 247 km/h (GPS) after tuning by Edward, before never tested.
For the Auto i can just try to get some information.

shouldn't struggle that early ...

Wow that is a LOT higher than I would have expected - nothing like having a local Autobharn to test out the speed.

I personally couldnt see mine doing more than 225 in same situation

Auto's are limited at 230 or 250? something like that, 270 limited for manuals in the ECU. Easily changed and I don't doubt on a straight enough road like the Autobahn a GT could reach 270.
I made 200 easily in my 6MT GT on basically stock power, I will never do it again though was just for a "life achievement". Only reason I did it was due to being on a special road I know of down near Phillip Island that is dead straight for about 6km with no trees nearby and no houses because it's farm land.
Putting that much stress on the tyres can lead to a blow out, and at those speeds I don't want to think about what would happen.

And after doing 200 how do you think the car would handle at 270? I wouldn't do it.
I've also been pretty fast in my lib and it sure didn't feel rock solid (granted it was no autobahn quality road - not even a public road)

Mine made 200 so easy it was silly, I was like...am I there already?
Was really solid too, could have happily gone for 220 but road was ending and I only wanted to make 200 anyway.

my old 320k 1993 pulsar did 170 a few years back...
