What would be the recomended rpm to launch off the line at?? and what if any clutch upgrades should be done before trying to launch. I have been looking at an Exedy double clutch, would this be iladvised?

i personally prefer holding it at 5237 rpm exactly before dropping the clutch.

in all seriousness, anywhere from 3-3.5k rpm works pretty well for me on the odd occasion im giving it all from a stop, but i think its more about how you use the clutch than an exact rpm

Being 4wd I wouldn't be doing hard launches in the car as it puts alot of stress on the box but thats just me..... When I had my rex I was advised that the golden rule was never to dump it in that type of car.

Each to their own I suppose.

6speeds are a lot stronger than 5speeds. They can generally take a fair amount of punishment, just depends on how much your game to risk.

I would never dump the clutch, did it a couple of times in my previous car a B4, the whole driveline made a massive THUD.
Just slip it, it's now slower and won't destroy you gearbox or other parts of you drivline.
It's much more of a challenge to get off the line as well, feels great when you do it well and keep up with the auto next to you.

Thats what I used to do as well. I have an old Hi Octane video demonstrating why you shouldnt dump it. This guy was trying to do donuts in a mates Evo and after a couple of dumps you hear this funny noise, then see bits of gears rolling from underneath the car...... very funny then he hands the keys back

Thats me as well, NEVER dump the clutch. There are wallet loads of expensive stuff inside there, and even if your 20th dump didnt break it - the box is still more degraded than one which has never been dumped at all.

I never dump any AWD clutch, for those who do, enjoy the breakages when they come - what fun.

ive dumped at the 5000 stationary limiter and dumped at the 7200 limiter while crawling. Ive got a Clutch Industries clutch which is only slightly better than stock. the clutch slips naturally and the engine bogs down. its stupid and a pointless waste of time, especially if you wanted to go an exedy and dump it. rev to 3500 slip the clutch to get moving and then floor it once the clutch is engaged. will save a few $$$$ because you will still have a working gearbox, clutch, diff, engine and no headache after it. not to mention a launch that is as good or better.

I launched mine at 6000 plus, think if u have a 6spd Sti box it's ok with an up graded clutch I wouldn't do it in the 5 spd, u will wear your clutch out fast doing them and also put heaps of stress on the drive train engine and gear box mounts even your diff mounts and suspension bushes, be prepared to spend coin if u do them regularly

Bring the revs up to 4000, then ease the clutch out and floor it when the clutch starts to bite.
Here's me doing it last year. (Once in a burnout to wipe mud and grass from the tyres, then again for the real start of the hillclimb)
