Liberty 3.0 for first car?

Fuel economy isn't a huge concern, it was just a concern with the 3.0 V6 because of the extra money involved regarding insurance and registration.
I understand that the boxer engine layout doesn't usually lend itself to fuel economy, and with a 4 cylinder it could get 20L per hundred k's because it's cheaper to insurance and gets cheaper rego.
Mind you, my sisters 2008 Forester gets 8.6L per 100k's in town, you can't complain there.
Hell, the fuel economy in the V6 doesn't bother me, if I can make it work I will.
I was more worried about the reliability questions I posted.
If I get charged $1000ish for rego and $2,000+ for insurance, I don't want to have to replace a bunch of faulty components.
From what I've gathered on here, the main issue with the 3.0 are belts causing a whirring noise?
I had a look at a 3.0 today, loved every bit of it.
Looking at a 2.5 liberty 07 (post facelift?) on Tuesday.
Thanks for your help everyone.

If you are looking at ones with > 100000kms on the clock they should have already had timing belt replaced at the 100000kms service.
Don't buy anything near 100000kms that hasn't had the big service or that will cost you > $1000.

Tyres are another thing. If you buy something that needs a new set of tyres in the near future it could cost you a bit. Depends what model you end up with though as to the size and cost of tyres.

Yes, ideally 105,000-110,000 would be perfect. I am planning on doing some figures this afternoon to see whether I can afford the V6.
I just hope that if I do get it that insurance won't kill me.

The H6 dosent have a timing belt it's chain driven, so 100k service isn't as much of big deal.

It's not a V6 either they are a flat 6 ;)

Insurance wise wagons are slightly cheaper to insure as well

Wow that pretty poor economy from the 3 litres. I reckon my GT in 'Intelligent' mode, or grandpa mode as i like to call it will get closer to the 550k-600k mark with mixed driving.
After changing the mufflers to hotdogs it's amazing how much unburnt fuel goes through the exhaust even on light throttle, it's
a good but expensive sound :D

Unfortunately the AWD in a suby destroys the fuel economy.
(However my 20 year old Laser gets 500k from around 38L :D )
If it's broke use a cable tie!

Touche hahaha. Keep forgetting its a boxer 6.

I actually would love a wagon, good for chucking a bike/guitar/surfboard whatever in the back. They're just so bloody hard to find!
Also are all 2.5 wagon libertys dual range?

Again, thanks to all

I just got a 2005 3.0 and I am very happy coming from a daewoo :D

I flogged it a bit on the first day as you would, and about 250 km/s down and gone through half a tank, including being flogged. So that's not too bad I don't think.

It's my first car that I have paid for (daewoo was a hand me down) so I am very very pleased and SO glad I didn't go down the commodore route.

Auto I assume? You'll love every second behind the wheel. Im also glad I didnt go the commodore route, I had the unpleasant experience of driving an '05 commodore for work yesterday I wanted to top myself after driving it.
