I could well be on the new engine list now, woman ran a red last week and took the front off my Lib, nothing salvagable from the firewall forward, bent chassis etc. Awaiting the final word on write off or repair tomorrow as they have to pull the front down to see extent of damage to the engine  I'll post a pic when I can be bothered uploading them somewhere, unless someone wants to handle that for me, too much on my plate at the moment and changing webservers too...

A new one would be nice but we are currently on the borderline and it's proving difficult to swing them to write it off. There is no damage from the firewall back... but then the motor has been moved across... my wife picked the Liberty and loved it, and she lost her battle with cancer 5 weeks ago which is making this process much more difficult than it should be.

And went bad again.
Subaru have now confirmed, I'm getting an engine swap in four weeks time.

Hey Ric,

Just a quick question as I haven't had any experience with engine swaps.

When they do the swap do they attach a new metal plate with the engine number on it to the car to prove that's what is supposed to be in there. And if so do they take off the old plate, or do they put the new one beside the old one?

Cheers,

GT

I'm going to ask, but I imagine that I will get a new engine number with the swap, so I'll have to advise VICROADS to update the registration once it's done...
It's a "short engine" swap, so they transfer my heads onto a new block, but the S/N is on the block.
The VIN number is seperate, so that will stay unchanged.

Check my photo thread at http://forum.liberty.asn.au/viewtopic.php?t=694 to see the engine swap in progress.

I was told today that the new block is a modified design from the original.
Apparently the pistons and rings have been redesigned to change the angle of the ring on the cylinder wall, to improve the oil seal!

Oil - H6

Postby grunta007 » Wed Apr 04, 2007 8:23 am

Hi,
So based on the talk about the H6 engine and oil usage do you need to check your oil consumption every week ? or when you fill up with petrol ?

Thanks

You should spot the trend very quickly. If it's not dropping fast, then only every second or third fill would be plenty.

Hey Ric, what was your oil consumption figures when they decided to do the short block? Mine's just finished the check period and figures going to Subaru today... Test period was over 5500km, oil consumption was 4.5 litres :shok: 1.5 litres in the last 980km...

Edit: on the engine design topic, apparently the 'revised' short block has revised crosshatching in the bore plus new rings...

They didn't tell me the final figure, but over 1L per 2,000km I'd guess.
