It looks like I'm on the "new engine" list :(

Postby Ric » Fri Oct 20, 2006 11:18 pm

I complained about excessive oil consumption at my 12,500km service (3.5 litres since the 5,000km oil change), so I was put onto "oil watch".
I took the car back today, after doing 1,800km, and it was down to the L mark on the dipstick. They topped it up, and calculated I am well over the trigger threshold where S.A. will consider replacing the entire "bottom end" of my engine.
I'll hear the decision next week....

OMG

Now that's interesting, my B4 chews oil but mainly when I thrash it, basically all the time :D

But i don't lose oil that much, it sounds like your losing 500mls per 1500KLM way too much!

Keep us posted

That sucks, Ric - wonder how many engines Subaru have done now!

My RX chews up 2ltrs of oil between servicing (7,500km) lol, cops a quite a thrashing though.. still sucks bbuying 2 x 5ltrs bottles of oil though with one just used to top up

Ric, I hope you can get this resolved ASAP.
Are you hoping to get a decision before yr big trip or after you return?

One question and im not trying to be cheeky, but how hard do you drive the car, i find my car one that invites me to rev it and sometimes i do it a tad to much, thats when i found mine burnt the oil.

Apart from the motorkhana I did a few weeks ago, I'm pretty gentle on it.
I'm driving to keep my average fuel consumption figure down, and flooring it kills your consumption ;)

haha aint that the truth, i took the car for a 120 km trip the other day through some twisties pushing the car pretty hard and i am struggling to get the fuel consumption below 12 l/100, mind you the car was averaging over 15l/100 at one point

Hey Ric, I'm pretty close to that too, have used just on 3 litres so far from 5k - 10.5k, service in a week or so, I'll mention it then and see what they say.

If they're going to pull it apart, might have to get them to do some work while it's apart
