It looks like I'm on the "new engine" list :(

Posts specific to the 3.0 litre NA H6 engine

New engine is in, I've been in Italy for a month and they did it while I was away. Been back a few days and driving the car. Seems to have a little more torque off idle than the old banger...

Any further details on this. i.e. has the short block replacement fixed the oil consumption issue?

Also for those who had the replacement block, did you get a loan car for free or did you have to pay the going rate ($40/day I think). I have a mate who was told yesterday that he is on the list for block replacement and he is trying to get a loan car for free but Subaru say he must pay

Mine's going fine.
The level has dropped a little over the last 3,000km, but haven't needed a topup yet.
I had a free Forester loan car while it was being done. If it's being done under warranty (which mine was), then I would demand a loan car!

Haven't checked the oil in mine since it was done

I didn't need a loan car as I was overseas but they offered one at no cost when the replacement was first ordered.

In the market but has concerns

Postby Jegi#5 » Sat Nov 10, 2007 10:08 am

Hi Guys,

This oil issue is bugging me out. I am tossing up between a 3.0RB, GT and 6 MPS. The 3.0RB was the car I was in the market for last year but it was out of my price range and I got an Accord Euro instead which was a great car till it got written off last month.

Now I have read these forums and read the MRT forums, the oil issue concerns me. Like an earlier post I have concerns about the wide spread nature of the oil issue with the H6 engine. How wide spread is it, are there people with 3.0rb's that have no oil issues at all? The fact that people have had engine replacements in such a new car concerns me.

The other question is does anyone with the series 2 liberty 3.0rb - 2006 onwards, have the same issues or has Subaru fixed this issue with the Series 2?

As good as the 6 MPS seems, I see myself constantly drawn to the liberty's for some strange reason, always loved them.

Thanks in advance :)

I was advised that the new block came with revised pistons and rings, which reduce oil usage. I'd expect all MY07 and later models to have the new version.

Well that sounds good...just that I can't seem to find any one complaining about this issue on these forums and MRT in regards to the MY07. The fact that the 3.0rb costs less than the GT and would be cheaper to insure is very attractive.

mine with the new engine is not using any oil. As Rick says I'd expect they are using the revised engine in the new model.
