gday lads

Got my 150k serviced coming up. Brakes are abit scratchy at times so ill replace the discs and pads also.

I got the disc sizes:
Front 316mm
Rae 290mm

But im struggling to find the pad sizes for the 3.0rb range..

If any1 has the size / model numbber that would be great.

BTW..the cars still running like new :)

Front disc's are 316mm not 390mm.

What disc's are you getting and how much? I think mine are slightly warped and I have my 150k service coming up as well

Found it :D

DB1722 is correct for the front calipers but DB1803 is the wrong pad shape for the rear calipers. It should be DB1379.

I sent then an email a while ago advising the error but it looks like they have done nothing.

Didnt know we could get Brembo pads

Seems we can, even if this isnt the specific part for the 3.0 - maybe someone can confirm

I have only ever tried Brembo pads once, I took a USED front set from a KTM 450 SXF and put them in the front caliper of my Suzuki RM125 06 and the braking performance improved out of sight - amazing transformation. If same transformation can occur with Liberty with a Brembo pads then I would be SOLD on the idea totally

And the price is very good for Brembo stuff

So thats brembo pads for our stock brakes? What kind of rotors would you run with them? Im looking at doing my brakes and Im not really keen on doing the whole Brembo path as I dont want to change wheels at this point.

These are pads for Stock Rotors

I used Brembo pads on stock rotors on dirtbike in woeful conditions and the Brembo pad is AMAZING

At the end of the day a reasonable caliper is needed, but the pad is doing the stopping together with the rotor, so long the rotor can dissipate enough heat and pads are right makeup then you can have pretty awesome brakes.

At the price - these would be a really decent upgrade over stock pads and would certainly stop much better.

A full Brembo setup would see a much larger pad and make most of its gains there, but I can see from experience that the pad alone is a big difference - especially if its BREMBO.

The STI spec Brembo caliper does not use any larger pads unfortunately. The pads Subaru put in the Brembo's on the Liberties were not all that crash hot from the complaints I've read in here - hardly any better than the stock pads in the 2 pot calipers that you have. I have no idea how pads directly from Brembo would perform though.

The stock pads on ours are easily capable of overpowering the tyres at non-go-to-jail road speeds - thus getting yourself better braking power is going to be useless unless you get stickier tyres to make use of it. The only areas where you would be looking to improve the brakes are:
  • super high speed fade resistance (and in your area how often are you going to use that?)
  • Repeated and extended high temperature fade resistance (see previous point)
  • slight improvement in bite

Otherwise, the stockers provide pretty good bite, aren't particularly dusty, are quiet (IMO) and stop well in most temps. They aren't subjected to the poor conditions a dirt bike's brakes are as the wheels will shift most shit away from getting near the discs as long as you are moving.

Fwiw, I have some aftermarket pads in the front of mine (stock in the back) and found initial cold bite a bit less than the stockers. The only areas they have improved on the stock pads has been fade resistance and longevity (80 odd thousand km's on these pads so far and there's still meat left and only tenths of a millimetre wear on the DBA4000's that were fitted at the same time). They may also be a bit less dusty.

Still, I'd be interested to hear what they are like if anyone tries them as sooner or later my front pads are going to need to be replaced

I was thinking of going with Dixcel Type M Pads and some rotors to suit.

There is a road that I travel quite often in the snowy mountains (Brown Mountain) Which depending on conditions can be quite a strain on the brakes (I hit brake fade less than halfway down in my old commodore not pushing much), Im also running Pirelli Pzeros im not sure how they compare to the OEM potenzas but I've never driven on anything more sticky dry or wet.

for the pads, just look for GT pads, we have the same size brakes.

i know ill be upgrading to DBA street series rotors, but still unsure of the pads.

Worth a try if you are looking for another alternative.

I obsess over the Brembo brand for dirt bike braking, goes from ordinary to brillant just by a pad change. And in the first instance the brakes were good, but somehow Brembo is FAR superiour

and also a cheap but very worthy upgrade will be a set of steel braided brake lines
