I've got a 2006 Liberty 3.0 and this noise has been present ever since I bought the car about 2 years ago.

There's this rattling noise whenever the car goes over a speed bump or hits some bumpier roads. The noise sounds like the back window is loose or something. I've been in my friends 2005 Liberty 3.0 as well and it makes the same noise. I took it to Subaru Docklands when the car still had new car warranty and they denied hearing anything! I reckon they just didn't wanna fix it.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about or experienced this? Does anyone know how to fix this?

Is it a sedan? If it is, I had a problem in my old GT sedan with the trim on the parcel tray moving and the brake light hitting the rear veiw mirror. I also had some issues with trim in the boot rattling becuase it wasn't clipped in properly and the number plate rattling.

On a side note, my MY10 GT wagon has developed a monster of a rattle in the rear, nfi what it is so any other Gen5 wagon owners out there with an annoying rattle that isn't the number plate, let me know.

Noises in the rear of mine (wagon)
-cargo blind rattles when it's not extended
-centre seatbelt rattles in the roof when it's not clipped in to be used
numberplate rattles on the tailgate.

all of which i can easily fix, i just haven't got there yet

ride in the back seat on the passenger side one day to get a different reference to the location of the sound. I had what I thought was a buzz in the back until I rode in the back and found it was the sunroof trim rattling

Removed.

does it sound like someone hitting your window with a coin? thats what the mine sounds like, rear right door kind of direction, no idea what it is either, wish it would go away.

I get that too, but seems to be only in the mornings, I think it must just be a cold thing....

never happens after the car has been sitting in the sun for a while....

yeah its only started up in the last two months so that makes sense. wonder what it would be?...

I had a similar problems and it drove me batty up the wall crazy! i hunted for it the other day for ages, and it was the rear number plate, i had previously removed the plate surround and the plate was rattling against the panel itself, so placed some plastic retainers and padding and its now totally gone !!! try that

oh ok, ill put some of that double sided foam tape stuff on it and see how it goes

just played with my number plate, got my dad to tap on it while i sat inside, sounds nothing like something hitting the shell or bodywork of the car at all, more like as i said, a coin tapping on glass. its driving me insane!!!

Process of elimination, take everything out of the boot, spare wheel, jack, tool kit, and floor matts, etc etc, just empty the sucker and check.

Or do what the guy on the Supercheap Auto add does and take your whole car apart.
