building a intake pipe for 3.0r's

this is also in the how to section.

i have built a stainless intake pipe for my lib, i have a MY07 3.0R specB liberty sedan.

i just thought i would post up a quick run through on how to make one, i welded mine up with a tig welder but you can also use silicone joiners if you want.

you need:
at least 2 straight 3" silicone joiners
hose clamps
two 90 degree mandrel bent 3" piping
one 45 degree of the same ( i just cut a 90 in half for mine)
and a little bit of straight ( i cant remember how long but 300mm should be plenty and i cant measure mine as i have wrapped it up just double check as the bends i got had a bit of overhang after the bend)
a breather filter
and something to but in the pipe you screw the breather filter onto , i used a bolt that i drilled a hole in.

ok first of all remove the stock intake from air box to throttle body.
put one of the 3"joiners on the throttle body and put one of the 90 degree bend in the joiner.

when i made mine i didn't exactly measure anything i just put it all as i wanted in and marked it then cut it.

then i got the other 90 and put it where it needed to go but of course it overlapped the other 90 so i marked it then cut it
i double checked it was in the rite spot and it was so i welded the two 90s together.
then i put the other 3" joiner in the air box outlet.
then i put one of the other 90s i bought in the joiner and marked where i needed to cut it so i could get the rite angle
i then cut it and put it back in the joiner to double check it
then i got a bit of straight and marked where i needed to cut it
i cut it then put it in place and checked it then i welded it to the two 90s i welded before
then test fitted it again and it all lined up sweet so i welded the 45 onto the rest

and then it was done.
there is only one vacuum line in the stock intake and all i did with that was drill the guts out of a bolt and put that in the pipe and put a breather filter (one of those little pod filter looking things) on the line.

mine does touch the clutch master a little bit but hasn't seemed to be a drama.

aslo the stainless did seem to get fairly hot just from driving so i exhaust wrapped mine and you can feel the difference in power i personally think.

if you don't want to weld it you can pretty much do the same as above but just use a joiner where it needs to be welded.

to use the stock cover you have to cut one of the pieces of plastic that hangs down on the drivers side at the back of the cover and use cable ties to hold it on.

its not that technical i know but thats exactly how i made mine, and it turned out perfect and it was easy as.

here are some pics when it wasn't wrapped,

and now that its wrapped,

and this is where that little bit of plastic is you need to cut,

and as usual i don't take any responsibility if you do this and something happens to your car you do it out of your own choice, this is just a guide and every car can be different. so if you try this and something happens to you or the car its not my fault.:)
