Guys and Gals,

I know the owners manual indicates the NGK ILFR6B spark plug as the standard replacement for 100K kms intervals, but have any of you tried other plugs/specs and what were the results?

If you have a good or better plug (performance and durability) the time is now (as my 200K service is due). Would also appreciate vendor details, links, contact details.

Someone posted a really good aftermarket spark plug that was almost half the price of the OEM ones. It was probably for the 4 Cyl though, but still it's worth looking in to aftermarket if you want to save almost 50%.

I have spent the last week doing searches on several forums and cannot find a better alternative to the OEM version that was made by NGK for the 3.0R. The standard version is an Iridium plug with the correct gap setting of 0.8mm and has durability to 100K kms. That is pretty hard to beat for a "standard" plug.

Just seeking other 3.0R or GT drivers experience where they have identified an alternative plug with at least the same durability and with better performance. It may be a big ask.

Don't bother responding with cheaper plugs with less durability, which translates to more frequent changes. These responses have been posted elsewhere in this forum and others. I want to preserve the 100K kms durability.

100k from O E M plugs speaks for them selves. Subaru would have tested every plug on the market and decided NKG was the ducks nuts

I can't recall anyone in here talking about alternative plugs for the 3 litre. I guess it comes down to the state of tune of the engine. If it is stock (even with a tune) I see no reason to "upgrade" to different plugs. Also keep in mind that unless you are doing the job yourself you'll be paying 2-3 hours labour just to change them so the longer the plugs last the better IMO.

Tend to agree, and it seems like there is no improvement in this specific case.

Agree also, as I do pay for others to do this as I do not have the means to do servicing myself. So the durability of the plug is an important consideration for me.

It's not a difficult job to do yourself, you just need some time and patience.
