I'm thinking of buying an 06 3.0R-B wagon

Hi all,

Great forum here; some great looking cars and interesting reads.

As the subject says, I'm interested in a 3.0R-B wagon; this one in particular - http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/private/details.aspx?R=9887976&__Ntt=3.0&__Qpb=true&__Dx=mode%20matchany&__Ns=pCar_RankSort_Int32|1||pCar_PriceSort_Decimal|1||pCar_Make_String|0||pCar_Model_String|0&keywords=3.0&__N=1216%201246%201247%201252%201282%204294963605%204294963801%20897&__Ntx=mode%20matchallpartial&seot=1&__Ntk=CarAll&silo=1011&Cr=1&__Nne=15&trecs=3&__D=3.0&__sid=111F079FB5CB

I have viewed and driven it twice and by all accounts, it is in excellent condition and as the seller describes. I'm not so sure about the asking price though and I was hoping you knowledgable lads would offer your comments. I'm specifically interested to find out if you guys think it's worth what the seller is asking, or if not then how much. Now I know it's a very personal and subjective answer to my question (and difficult to answer without seeing the car in the flesh) but it's quite a bit more than what Redbook states ($21,700 - $24,400), and since there are not many 3.0R-B's available at the moment there's not a lot else for me to compare prices with.

I'm looking forward to your thoughts and comments (hopefully!!!).

Cheers.

Wow, is that all, my car is worth now :(
(Actually, I've done twice the km of that car....)

There's not many of these come up for sale, so the Redbook price may not be that reliable. I'm sure you could use it to talk him down a bit though. ;)

That's about the price I paid for my sedan two years ago (less than a month before the bottom fell out of the used car market). It was a few months older with (at the time) 83k on the clock. I'd be looking to get at least a few grand off the price. If the seller is serious about that price he's dreaming IMO, otherwise it's just his starting price for negotiation

As i told the OP elsewhere,
i just picked up mine for $21K
06 RB 6speed wagon with 130,000km on it.

i don;t see 60,000km extra being worth $5000. maybe 2K or 3K extra

Hmmm, I'd comfortably pay about $24k for that and probably wouldn't feel too bad if I handed over $25k

...but $27K sounds too high for a private sale

As you said, not many up for sale at the moment, so Redbook was all I had to go on (That's not to say it's accurate though). I did offer $25K but he won't budge from $26K.

I actually read a few posts of people paying quite a bit less than $27K for same model, same km a couple of years ago in this forum. But that was about the time of the GFC so maybe that had somethingf to do with it.

Hi Robbks,

I posted this at the same time as my other post, but it was delayed due to approval ( I understand Ric has been very busy), so please don't hink I posted here just because I didn't like your answer in the other post :D
I agree with you but I guess it's not just the low km's but the 4 new tyres and excellent condition of the vehicle which is influencing his asking price. It really just boils down to what he thinks it's worth compared to what I think it's worth.

That's my feeling exactly; $25K is a fair price.

Thanks very much for your comments guys. What would we ever do without forums?! :D

Mate, I feel confident in saying that it will probably still be for sale in a month at that price...who knows, maybe $25k will sound better to him then

Seeing as you are looking, are there many MY07s available? These are the post-face lift models that have a few minor additions / improvements

That thought did cross my mind and it has been on the market since October.

I have been looking at MY07's as well, even GT's. I know I won't get a GT for $27K or less but I'm prepared to spend more if i feel there's value in the purchase. There's a nice black MY08 RB on carsales for $31K in VIC at the moment. If I could get that for $29K I think I would be happy spending the extra $3K. Since I 'must' have a manual wagon my choices are very limited and being in Canberra doesn't help.

I reckon putting the bid in for that wagon at $29k would definitely be worth a shot, it looks well presented, I'd own it :D

Yes it does and it appears to tick all the boxes for me. Just a pity it's in VIC. Trying to buy a car interstate can be such a pain.

Id pay the extra for the 08, especiallyif he isnt prepared to budge on price. Or know the seller down a fair way on the 3.0RB. I got mine not Oct last year, with 140k on it. for 20. And it was in fantastic condition and 1 owner full service ect.
Just as a reference.

Nice cars tho, I'd definately recommend them. So good luck with the hunt. :)

Yep, I am leaning towards the MY08 unless (like you said) the MY06 owner comes down lower than $26K. Just have to wait and see I guess. Oh, and try to make it down to VIC to check out the MY08.

Thanks for your comments.

As Rob found out, Im sure one of the Vic members could at leastgive it a basic check over for you to mke sure its not a waste of time you going down. Maybe put the call out in the Subaru chat area and find out the area the car is in so members know where your looking.

that would at least save you travelling only to find out its no good. :)

Thanks for the suggestion. I will seriously consider it.
