Make sure that you put in a good cai to take advantage of the gain and suck in as much debris as possible

Prova air guide will help draw in extra debris too, be sure to buy that!

All jokes aside, I'm really struggling to understand how someone can come to not only do something as stupid as remove
a crucial part of their intake but stop to take photo's and then post what he's done up on the interweb...
Maybe I'm getting old... haha, People kill me

I think he means replace the filter with a new one.

Maybe he is saying remove the old dirty filter that has been inhibiting performance.... And replace it with a new one.... I don't know.... That's how I'm reading it....maybe clarification from the thread author is required.
Surely no one would run their car without a filter...the airbox probably wouldn't lock/remain closed without it anyway.
Then again I've seen some dodgy work in the effort to increase performance.

Yeah I think we are all just having a little fun.
It was Jim that was the one bringing up running without one, OP just joked about that 'being an option'

Where were you when I needed you at the start of the thread?...
If I misread the op and jumped conclusions please disregard my above comments.
My apologies. I will now wear the stoopid hat.

I helped someone blow out mud dirt and water from a CAI inner guard filter recently.... He travelled from Sydney to Melbourne through floods etc.... When I asked where the plastic inner guard liner was he said .... Oh i lost that weeks ago.... So he was running the filter with no protection from mud and water fir weeks...... I don't know!!!! LOL

you guys crack me up..... :P

in all seriousness thats how it came out of my car, god knows how old it is.
replaced with a K&N and I also removed the resonator while I was at it. car runs noticably better as is expected.

Aftermarket filters aside, stupid me was under the impression Subaru where replacing the filter as part of a service????. Guess not hey...cause I had never done it and I've had the car 2 years already. and if Subaru aint doing it that means the previous owner prob had it way to long as well....
