hey
my interior light dosent come on when i open the doors to my wagon. you can switch the light to always on and it works but when the switch is in the middle nothing happens.

is this a normal thing, is it not ment to come on?

or do i have a problem?

What happens if you put the switch to the side you haven't tried yet? You should be able to select: Always on, on with doors open and always off.

yes ive tried it, the middle and drivers side do nothing and the passenger side is always on.

To state the obvious, its not a normal thing - you have a problem.

have you tried opening all the doors? or tried with just one door? this will eliminate the door switches as the cause (or indicate that all your door switches are faulty).

Do you have a multimeter? One that checks continuity as well. If you're not handy with electrical wiring, you might have to take it to the auto electricians/mechanics to have a look.

yeh i did it with a couple of the doors still nothing but ill double check with all doors tonight.

what exactly would i check continuity between?

ive got a fair knowledge of wiring as im a power linesman

Does your model normally fade the light down when you close a door?
The Gen 4's do this, and I'm sure the Gen 5's would too.
If so, this is controlled by the BIU box, and the output on that may be blown. (They're not cheap to replace either.)

ive got no idea what it normally did ric, coz ive only just bought the car.

Actually, I looked at the wrong post to check what model you have, and saw Kevlar's "04 GT Wagon".
You have the same model as me, so yes, it is controlled by the BIU.
Are the "door open" indicators working on your dash?
If yes, then all the door switches are ok, and it's probably the BIU as I suggested. That's not easy to check direclty, it's buried deep inside the dash.

Here's the relevant pages from the MY05 service manual. The most relevant part is in the red box:

problem solved, after checking all the door sensors were working and the fuses i decided to pull the whole light assembly out of the roof and long behold there was my issue.

the actual wiring plug that attaches to the interior light assembly was only just sitting on the contact. plugged that back on properly and problem solved.

i just got my MY05 3rb and its doing the same. hopefully its just a wire aswell. this helps alot

Someone should write a check list for car buyers specific to Libertys that they can print off and actually check when they look at Libertys to buy.
Best of luck fixing it guys, when you're done fixing it maybe you can upgrade to some LED interior lights

dont worry once i get the car back to its showroom condition(fixing window tint, finding all the plastic covers, a good detail etc), LEDs and HIDs will be my first mod for it

Hks180 can do all the HID's and LED's, here is his vendor forum.
