Ok cool. I very much doubt it's a fix for Diffs that already have the issue.

Mine had the binding issue and the oil was replaced with the Toyota stuff just before I bought it.

I have one in bits at the moment from a GenIII RX. It looks like the only thing that could fail is the oil.

Hmm, interesting! So the previous owner had the binding issue and had the oil replaced with Toyota stuff before you bought it? And that fixed the problem? (you didn't mention it, but I assume it did).

How many km have you driven since - and it's still good?
Sorry for all the questions but this could save a lot of people a lot of money.

Yep, was fixed before I bought it, about 2 years ago. Not sure of the km's but I'll guess at about 25-30k and still fine.

TBH I don't see a need to replace the entire unit. As mentioned before, converting it to a full open diff would be OK too.

This is spot on!! My local independent Subaru mechanic said the exact same thing, Toyota oil.

A workshop in Canberra?

Yup Techworkz. Subaru specialists.

And wow, just replacing the oil solves the issue?? Maybe it prevents the symptoms but not entire issue? If I can save a grand on this and put it towards 'actual performance' or even a tune that'd be GREAT.
Mind you, I only notice this binding at FULL lock in carparks, which happens once a month at most.

My LHF shock needs replacing though, knocking at slow speeds so defs need to switch that out first. I fear for my safety haha.

The Bilstein knock? Been through that. After replacing sway bar end links, mounts and strut tops (all of which needed done anyway), the Bilsteins still gave the most knock. Ended up replacing them with new ones, but apparently greasing the internals will stop the knock. Iv'e got my old set available for sale if you want to regrease those or use them as replacements whilst you regrease yours. They have only travelled 100k.

If I could have regreased mine, I would have. But having the car off the road was not an option.

Interesting topic about the Centre Diff binding. Got me paranoid now. :/

Bookmarked

Have just started having symptoms and am thinking of replacing a few other parts while everything is pulled apart. Eg clutch and flywheel. Sounds a lot like throw out bearing on its way out jim berry all the way by the sound and also timing chain tensioner as a quite loud clicking has been slowly getting worse

How much extra work am I saving if any at all by tackling these jobs at the one time?

I phoned them today :D. Have you already got your clutch kit? He told me today that he's retiring, so people need to get their orders in soon. He's already started moving. As soon as I find out what flywheel my GT needs, I'm phoning again for the order - next week I'd say.

Search for Jim Berry on the forum, and see which owners have a H6. Jim couldn't remember what clutch was in post FL GTs, so I'm also in the process of finding out what I need. He offered me a few Exedy options but the people on here who love their Jim Berry clutch have had modified Sachs clutches.

He suggested I get my clutch removed, and tell him what I have. But I'd rather not have my car out of action for a week or more.

He asked:
1) Push Type or Pull Type clutch?
2) Flywheel: 230mm with 2mm step down? (usually the Push Type)
OR 240mm with 14.6mm step down? (usually Pull Type)
3) Stepped Flywheel or not? (I guess that applies to the previous Q)

Haha, yeah - sounds like me. ID1000 Injectors and DW65c Fuel pump and fuel filters (waiting for E85), Amp for my already installed wagon sub box, ARP Headstuds, Cosworth Headgaskets.

So, looking at this thread, I am in the same position...can the problem really be rectified just by changing the oil to toyota oil?

I too could go a Jim Berry clutch, and by the sound of it, must order soon...but I also dont have the convenience of pulling my old clutch out first...so is there anyway to tell what I have without doing so?

I have a post facelift 07 (MY08) B spec H6...

That's what they are saying (someone's Subaru Specialist). And indirect experience by a forum member.

Maybe others can confirm what clutch you need, I'm trying to find out what GT clutch is used.

There's a few around.
Revzone would be one that should be able to help you out.
