Gents,

Off the topic a little.. What would be the best catalytic converter if planning to replace the ones we have? Magnaflow maybe, which part number? Your suggestion please..

Saff

The cat converter is also welcome for discussion in this thread I have started. I believe any quality brand would be fine something 100 cells per inch. One time i recall a magazine (posibbly Street Machine) here in Australia and tested quite a few brands for flow, have no idea if there is more current information out there on the subject.

Maybe someone here knows?

Hi Tim,

I removed the section just after the OME headers on my09 legy, and put a L304 SS 2.5"-3" Y with no CATs, linked to an OBX 3" CAT-Back sys. I removed all sensors, check engine poped up as expected and no more cruse and #S drive mode.

The car became crazy, pretty high response in 1st & 2nd gears. I believe I can beat a 3.0r AT with even an #S mode. Now I'm looking for high flow cats to have the sensors back and run the car with #S again and see the difference. Then a tune ;)

I believe now that the 30hp extra is true if the OEM CAT are removed!

OK, HUSTON - we have ignition

I now have exhaust manifold gaskets from which to template the flanges -

I expect to have flanges ready by the end of this week, then its extractor time baby!! :D

How long do you think it will be until you have them ready for sale?

Well usually it should go like this

1. Make a set, make production jigs at same time
2. Fit set to my car (Maybe Brad88 as well)
3. Drive for short term - check for fit, clearance issues seat of pants feel etc
4. Offer for sale.

I can offer a set to you almost right away tho if you would like, rather than wait for me to go through process. Will cost u less, but no assurances.

SPECIFICATIONS:
The items will be made by a local exhaust supplier/specialist of mine.

TIG - slow and very neat (bigger labour cost - K2 type of finish)
MIG - Fast and less neat - no particular strength advantage either way in this situation

There is a BIG labour difference between the 2 options above - will try and get a cost on that and make it an option

Flanges are 10mm mild steel - precision laser cut.

Material will be exhaust grade stainless - 409 not polished - purely so that catalytic converters are not damaged as they would be with mild steel.

We are only offering the extractor section with a flange, people can choose/not choose the types of catalytic converter they want to run - not going to get involved in the pro's and con's of what converter is better than another!

You will need an exhaust shop to install the headers for you.

OPTIONS:

CERAMIC COATING - probably around $350 at a guess

First set will likely be made Monday if our first order of flanges comes in before then

TIG welding will be the only option

Stainless will likely be the only metal

My first test set will be in mild steel, will make up the jigs off those for manufacturing.

Got to get this intercooler thing done too

Yes you are missing something

I am supplying the extractors with a flanged END which must be welded before the cat so they connect with the exhaust

Otherwise, I would have to supply the extractor and cat as a one piece like the K2 unit which would put the price far beyond what most people can afford. Also I dont plan on getting into catalytic converter arguments either, you can choose what you want

An exhaust shop will fit them properly, ensure that gaskets etc are fitted properly and no gas leaks, furthermore the risks people take with fitting this kind of thing themselves can lead to injury's like - car on top of person due to failed chinese jack or the like

These extractor sets will be made to order most of the time, we dont plan on stocking them unless the requests for them become higher than expected

That said, the delay time will only be around 3 days and they will be ready to ship out

To buy - you simply contact me

Payment will always be by direct deposit or PAYPAL, maybe COD in exceptional circumstances

Australia Post - registered post is the way I go and you can have insurance if you so desire

The only thing I am not sure on is whether I include the manifold gaskets for the cylinder head to extractor flange interface - from Subaru they are pretty exy and apparently they are the ONLY supplier of this gasket

Essentially you will be buying this amount of pipes plus a few inches more on the straight section and it will have a flange

Not going anywhere near the o2 Sensors at all

SH30RB

For the cars which are not supercharged - which is mostly everyone, I cant see you making much power gain, the cats are the more restrictive part, you will make gains replacing them as much as changing the manifolds

I believe the sound will change - more defined pulse for each cylinder, the stock cast manifold has some kind of sharing system which diffuses the individual pulse. More visceral sound

Remember, you can check with 3rspecb about the set of extractors he fitted recently.

His quote as follows is from the supercharger thread and applys in the context of his engine being supercharged

First thing I noticed was how much better the engine reved out. Going by my bumometer, the car feels better down low too.

Oh and the exhaust note is pretty awesome when on song
