I wouldnt say common, i think we are the only three on here that its happened too..and im pretty sure mine was just bad fuel...
Its prolly worth trying some different fuel, and give it a couple of weeks to get all the fuel out (if it was a bad batch). When i took mine in and they cleared the codes, about a week or two later it did it again, but no where near as bad. Im guessing mobil must have still had the same batch of fuel or there was still a little bit left in my tank? But mine hasnt done it again yet...so dont freak out if it does it a few times, if its bad fuel then it most likly WILL do it again after they clear the error...
Or you could have the same problem as Jay...maybe get your dealer to call Jays dealer..that way if it is the same problem they might replace your engine before you run out of warranty?

I took it back to see if it was the same fault code, which it was. BUT it isnt the sensor thats the problem, the sensor is doing its job. Its a blockage in one of the oil lines or filter apparently. It builds up and gets blocked, putting out the timing and tripping one of the sensors. My car is heading for 6 months out of warranty and they are saying they could need the car for a few days! Im thinking, GREAT MORE MONEY! But i had a call today and the local suby dealer has got onto subaru aus and they have agreed to do it under warranty!!! Im not sure if they are paying 100%, or if they are just paying a smaller %, but ANYTHING is better than nothing!
