i think the same circumstances apply. I’m sure if you push an EZ hard enough something will go wrong. the good thing is for us, is that the power is capped at 170atw with full exhaust and e85, where as a EJ can go up to 200awkw with simple mods.

Is anyone with a H6 running 107 octane yet?

My servo has switched over. The difference is noticeable but very minor although it hasn’t been retuned yet. Matt can sort that out next weekend!

I didn't think the 3 or 3.6had the same head bolt issue as the 2.5?

It was more the HG design itself plus running too much timing

Ah ok! I guess too much timing sucks when it doesn't detanate to warn you and set timing lower

3L HG issue is running the factory tune + timing on 98 and then having the AF Learning hit -5% or more and your running 15:1 at peak torque

E85 HG issues are non-existant other than where they were present before the E85 swap. E85 still runs atleast 7 degrees less timing than stock 98 tune ;)

I know its very early days but my 05 H6 had been on 8psi boost with 98ron for 6,000kms and now has been on 10psi and E85 for 4,500kms and no issues at all.

Hopefully I haven't jinxed myself lol. I'll also mention the engine has been on Matts tune since 71,000kms and now has 92,500kms.

For sure Tim on both fronts :D . The E85 torque from 1k - 3k is very impressive, simply effortless power for cruise or acceleration in 4 5 6th.

But WOT - the pull to 7100 is simply awesome and ur S/C internals upgrade is obviously working well also. Really liking the new whistle :D .

Just being for a few WOT squirts 2nite in the cold (10*C) IAT's 60*C max after runs, bum dyno feels this is the quickest its ever been. Still on stock clutch too.

Hey everyone…

Recently got the kiddo tune! A big thanks to Matt for this tune. The car runs better at idle, low rev range, torque…. Power response is smooth! (I’ve been really impressed by this tune and Matts knowledge!)

Keen for an E85 upgrade after reading this thread and after the first of the kiddo tunes. Couple of questions on E85 tune:

(1) There’s a bit of discussion on failed head gaskets / engine failure. Is this related to NA or Turbo liberty’s?
(2) Is the DW65c the correct pump for E85 on a MY07 3.0L Spec B?
(3) With this pump,I see that you can still run 95/98 on the non E85 tune. Will there be any change in prior fuel consumption since?
(4) Any issues upgrading the pump now with intention of E85 tune several months down the track?
(5) How do I know if injectors need to be upgraded?
(6) Do I need to replace the fuel filter? Or just use stock filter on the DW65c?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers, Pix

1) Failed head gaskets - seem to be more a thing on the turbo models I think. Not necessarily caused by E85, but because E85 puts them under stress for longer.
2) Pretty sure the DW65c is fine for the 3L (someone else with an H6 can probably confirm)
3) Fairly certain the pump wont change fuel consumption at all... the main benefit for this pump is that it can keep up with the higher flow required for E85. Or if you had a turbo model, higher flow for bigger turbo/injector upgrade/etc.
4) E85 is very good at cleaning all the crap in your fuel tank and fuel lines left from mineral-based fuel. If you do your fuel pump (and usually filter at the same time) you'll most likely clog the filter (and maybe pump?) up with deposits that the E85 will dislodge.
5) As far as I know (on the turbo models at least) you can use your stock injectors. Bigger injectors would allow for a big more flow/more power though. I'm guessing the H6's can use stock injectors?
6) See this post: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=21043&start=60#p366298 - recommended to replace filter at the same time. I got a non-genuine one for $50-ish, and the filter sock from Toyota for $30-ish. Toyota filter sock is needed as there are reports of the filter included with the DW65c causing fuel pick-up problems.

If you're planning on going to E85 you would be best to get your E85 tune done, the process Matt/Kido explained to me is to get the E85/flex tune ready, go to the petrol station and park next to the E85 tank - load your tune first, then fill up a tank of E85 (still with stock fuel pump and filter). Run 3 tanks on the stock fuel pump/filter (if your car has Si drive don't put it in Sports Sharp - don't thrash the car about heaps so the stock pump can keep up). 3 tanks I am told is enough to get rid of most of the deposits. Then get the DW65c and new filter/sock fitted, and enjoy! (you may need to do logging as well to ensure it's running smoothly). Don't run more than 3-4 tanks of E85 with the stock pump.

Based on my experience:

2) Yep DW65c is what you are after
3) shouldn't change your consumption
4) do the pump and filter at the same time, way less hassle
5) stock injectors are ok for E85

Really, you could feel the difference from 105 octane to 107 octane.

I might try it on the SSv when/if my local United upgrades from 105 to 107.

To answer my question above, Justin (Jaydece) rang United Petroleum to find out what the difference between 105 octane and 107 octane E85 is.

Current E85 = 15% reg petrol + E85 to produce 105 octane.

Race blend 107 = 15% Premium 98 + E85 to produce 107 octane.
