Ed

Some options for the future for sure, when I recover some investment $$

Just for a little info

Stock manifold collector outlet size 40mm (2nd highest total power) (Lowest torque)
V1 header collector outlet size 63mm (Highest total power) (dead midrange torque but good high rpm torque)
V2 header collector outlet size 56mm (Equal 2nd highest power) (highest torque and across most of rpm range, smashed stock and V1)

The primary info I will hang onto.

Hi folks,

Tim, The comparision you have made was very good.

Questions:

1. No tune performed?
2. Was it with cats?
3. What size was the catback?

I have removed all cats from my car, did cut the section just after the stock headers and ran a 2.5" Y to a 3" cat system. I'd like to know if ver.2 would be a perfect choice for me especially after a near future tune.

Your questions

Questions:

1. No tune performed? None across the 3 tests
2. Was it with cats? Yes - factory original cats
3. What size was the catback? - Catback is still genuine original catback by Subaru 130 000km old

It was pure and simple a header test. Of course removing cats and opening up the catback will be pretty awesome

Tim/ Ed.

While tuning for the better airflow should give gains.
is there any issue with the stock tune in bolting these to a stock car?
i.e AFR's are all still safe to just bolt on and forget?

Cheers

I did specifically check AFR and they remained the same all the way through for my car

Correcto!

the thing is they simply have to be more efficient at removing the exhaust gas from the cylinders. (better flow) than the factory items
this is what we're all trying to achieve here.

as a by-product of this efficiency you get better fuel economy as the engine doesn't have to work so hard to get the gas out (pumping losses)
you also get less residual heat left in the cylinders which again increases the efficiency of the engine.
And because of less heat, the ECU will see less knock and be able to advance timing more which gains more power and efficiency again.

even if the gains don'e really get the car moving much faster, you will see improvements under normal driving conditions in responsiveness and fuel consumption.
whether you think $700 is worhwhile spending to do so, well that's personal preference.
but i'd say that spending $700 on these is a far better idea than spending $700 on a set of used STi mufflers just because they have 4 holes coming out of them.... :assassin:

Always remember this, on NA stuff I promise nothing - I simply deliver the results of tests on my car which have been verified by XTR.

The results we found should be able to be duplicated on a vehicle with an otherwise 100% stock exhaust system -

The car drives fantastic in the low mid and still same at top, should suit cars with auto trans really well (need to check for fit), suits manual as you can directly feel the difference without an torque converter absorbing some of the feel

That's good enough for me. If they fit on an auto I will place an order. :D

Great!! I felt a very noticable difference running without cats, it's like 10-15whp difference with factory headers!! running without a resonator will make a big noise I assure you!! I'd like to have v2 headers :)

If you have an auto just check warm stall speed with stock and with extractors. A bit of low end besides should see a few more RPM.

Thank you Tim for this great work. For me the best extractor for the SC project is found, maybe for the NA is a bit more potential, but not our goal and not worh the money and time.
The diameter from the collector goes up to 56mm from 40mm that means an area double the oem one - more than enough for our low pressure thing.
A look at the Tommi thread shows that the "new" extractors did not changed the number - before 407hp 6600rpm/500nm 4300rpm and after 422.5hp 7000rpm/ 501nm 5000rpm, but i think the temps goes down, because the engine doesn´t need so much power to extract the exhaust gases and the exhaust gas compression will be lower.

I believe for SC v2 is perfect.
