Can 225/45/18's not be used on the 3.0RB 7 inch rim?

Dunno. Probably best you speak with a tyre shop. I don't even know what options you have with a 225/45/18 tyre. I've only ever investigated the 225/40/18 option.

To determine differences in rolling diameter, section sizes, effect on speedo reading etc check out:

Think I'll stick with OEM size of 215/45-18.

That means Bridgestone 050 or Pirelli P-Zero I think.

The tire calculator syas going from 215/45 to 225/40 will lift speedo reading by 2.1%. My speedo is ALREADY at +6%....If I move wheels & tyres, think I would go to 225/45, which will reduce the over reading by 1.4%....

I had a set of 225/40 on the 3RB and could feel tyer roll and harsh bumps in the road corrugations so very quickly went back to Bridgestone 050 OEM s

It has been explained to me that the car manufacture works with the tyer manufacture to come up with the best tyre and suspension package to suit every model so Im sticking with what the experts have work out is the best combo

The down side of the OEM tyre fitted is they are usually a lot more $$, but they are superior, so you pays your money and takes your choice.....
I find the 215-45 rides pretty well, not harsh at all, compared to what some told me beforehand.

It makes me LOL people buy a relatively expensive car $56000 then add 1000s $$$ in mods and cheat on the only thing between the car and the road $1540 for OEMs and save $500 or so for crap tyers where is the logic? I would prefer to spend more on tyers than PINK badges lol

Everything that wears out relatively slowly sucks people into the trap of getting an unpleasant surprise when they finally need replacing. Should estimate life, get replacement cost, stick some $ in an account every 1000 kms to cover it so it doesnt hurt so much. Thats what depreciation is in a company's books is for - provide for replacement.

Can anyone offer any more advice on tyre choice for a 3.0r-b?

What sort of a price range is there for tyres in the stock size?

Thanks.

I don't think our options have improved much in the 5 months since I was last looking around. Best to just call around your area for prices on the OEM RE050a, Advan Sport (V103), P Zero Nero/Rosso and K110. IMO, those are the best options we have in 215/45R18.

Until more car manufacturers choose to use this size (which I doubt - it's really only the Liberties and Lancers at the moment) we'll be screwed for options and price

First choice has got to be RE050A. If they are too expensive, I'd not bother with the other two listed there and get these:

They can be bought for much less than RRP right now too.

There were actually 4 others listed there

In defence of the Advan V103, They have done over 10,000km now and are working really well. I have to be either ham fisted or driving well beyond sensible to lose grip in the dry and haven't had an issue in the wet. I can't speak for the others as I haven't tried them

I'll keep the Kumho's in mind next time I buy tyres though (possibly even the end of the year  )

215/45 18's are around, but as you so rightly point out, only a few brands carry them. Try finding a 205/50 17 (SP23)...

I still think a 225/40 18 would be the most cost effective option, even on a 7 inch rim... I ran 225/40 18's on my Spec B rims in order to keep the rolling radious as close to stock as possible & I though it was fine overall... The key is buying a good quality tyre in the first place :D

& believe me, you don't have to spend big bucks on tyres to get something that is as good if not better then the standard RE050A's :D

Is there anything decent for around the $250 per corner mark?
