I've had my H6 from 2005 and in the early days there were a few that had engine failures. When the engines were new everyone said to use mineral oils to help the bedding in process. After around 20-30,000 Klm's you could switch to part/fully synthetic oils as the engine would have been bedding in by then.

As most H6's on this forum are not new and possibly second/third owners fully synethetic may be the way to go. Which ever route you take, mineral or synthetic there is one thing that needs to be done regularly, CHECK YOUR OIL LEVELS.

By the way up to 30.000klms I used mineral oil, then switched to part synthetic and now I use fully synthetic and I have no excessive oil consumption. But I have had this car from new.

My mechanic uses a full synth Penrite and I use Castrol Titanium Edge 5w-30. Will prob change over to Penrite (HPR5) too after I finish off the Castrol at the next change. Bloody annoying that the H6 uses 5.5L every change and having to buy a 5L and 1L bottle... :-x

Why not just buy more 5L and keep them in the garage, it's not like you're going to stop doing oil changes?

I'd hope not right.

Ah so much choice, full synth vs semi synth. I'm convinced Penrite is the way to go though!

Yep.

I buy 20lit at a time and use it for both Subies, plus I buy 4 or 5 filters for each, so Im set.

I guess that would be the logical thing to do... But I'm not entirely logical...
