No, I meant gearbox oil :)

Clutch fluid should be changed every 12months, as should brake fluid. its a hydroscopic fluid (absorbs moisture) and therefore it needs regular changing.
Built not bought, it's a way of life.

The "whirring" sound when changing into 1st at higher road speed is normal. The gearbox has to get the input and output shafts to the same speed before the syncromesh dog gears will engage. This is why it feels like it takes more effort. Leaning against the lever makes this happen but it takes longer with greater speed differences.
To go easy on the trans and make the shift quicker you should "double de-clutch" which is what truck drivers who don't have syncromesh gearboxes have to do. Basically when shifting into first at a higher road speed you let the clutch out on neutral, rev the engine amd then quickly declutch and shift into 1st. It will pop into gear with no effort or noise.

Mine began life as a Sachs kit, then it gets Jim's treatment of Double thickness organic friction material, and pressure plate customised to suit the application.
$1100 including machined flywheel (in exchange for all your old junk)
+ fitting by your mechanic.

Jim is out with a medical condition until the end of Jan 2012, so no clutchs from that source for the next little while

sounds like she rides the clutch to me.

it doesn't take much to get mine to smell either
i.e steep hillstarts, etc

'Burning' a clutch a few times doesn't mean it needs replacing but it certainly won't last long and you may end up damaging the flywheel as well. You probably want to find out why it is happening.
A mate of mine wanted to show me how to do a burnout in his WRX. I don't think he's done one before - ever. I was curious as to how a stock AWD car like that would do a burnout on bitumen - ended up frying the clutch big time.

I can assure you she doesnt. Although as yet I havent been able to replicate this condition myself - lets see. Its all economy style driving which makes it more weird

the first thing i noticed about the 3RB and it's DBW is that if you just slip teh clutch out a little without many revs on it, the ECU picks up teh throttle by itself and revs the car (to prevent stalling)
it's a fine line between under and over-revving the thing to get it moving in stop-start traffic.

i hate the stock DBW Maps, especially at low rpm, they make the car a chore to drive.
after looking through teh ROM's of the 04-06 and the 07-09 (Si Drive equipped) models, the sport# SI drive DBW maps are much better.
almost 1:1 relationship between accelerator angle and Throttle Plate opening

the stock MY06 map is fuggin terrible
at low rpm you can input 30% accelerator angle, but you only get 15-20% at the throttle plate.
it's obviously to stop over-revving and better for economy, but it's horrible for us people who know how to control a throttle properly.

Well all has been revealed

The smelling was simply from when I spilled some smurf blood onto the catalytic converter due to pump pipe dislodging itself during filling. I have driven nearly 1500km in last 4 days and clutch has been flawless. As I am not the normal driver of car I can only go on what "she" says!

All good on the Raptor RB front
