So one of those would fix my oil turning dark too quickly?
Or would it need two oil changes using the big filters over time, to get it better?

There is nothing wrong with black oil. Where did the assumption black oil is bad come from?

QFT^^

Oil turning black quickly is a good thing
it means that the detergents in the oil are doing it's job in removing the carbon build up from your engine components.
it's the chunks of carbon that makes things wear excessively aswell.

if you're worried about the black oil, change it.
eventually, the oil will not go as black as fast, as you remove more contaminants from the engine.

hence why having a massive filter is good. proper delta pressure rates across the filter surface area, with a larger area for finer filtering at the same flow rates, and a larger aggregate surface area = longer lasting oil. wins all around.

Yes sorry that's what I meant.
I know darkened oil isn't bad, but I wanted to know kiks if you recommend doing that diesel oil flush which some people have talked about on this forum.

Not unless something is blocked? Which is highly unlikely in a car thats had regular (under 20,000km) oil changes.

Just no reason to.

Okay thanks.

Speaking of oil and filters, I am planning on doing an oil change myself.
Where can I get a decent oil filter on a weekend? I'm not interested in the huge ones like you have though.

Supercheap or autobarn or repco or whatever.Repco filter.
Part number will be in the book, remember to get the 3.0 h6 filter (outback/liberty/tribecca) as its significantly larger than the 4cyl subaru filters. Forget the number.

Genuine subaru filter is no better (definitely no heavier, and looks no different), 17 bucks each from memory from scoob. No deal on a weekend.

Any 10-40 or 10-50 fully syn oil will do, its not like it wouldnt run perfectly fine on any oil you choose though.

I ended up buying the oil filter from the link Mark put on the previous page, it's reusable. Picked it up today from Ivan, he knows his stuff that's for sure.

I'm going to go for a 5W-40 Redline oil also. only $100 which seems pretty reasonable.

Thanks for the help kiks, good to have someone on this forum that knows their stuff to help out the newbies like me.

A dirty big diesel Cummins oil filter takes a f##ng big oil pump to push the oil through it and maintain pressure .I would give more credit to the engine manufacturer to decide what size filter the pump is capable of pushing oil through than a forum jockey with NFI of mechanical principals

BUDDAH to be honest I would rather listen to finger nails scratching on a chalkboard than your opinion on opinions of other people. So if you could just kindly shut the fuck up that would be great.

Yeah mate you're awesome. Explain to me the negatives of a large filter.

I can go on for days about the positives, as can every single one of the most accomplished engine builders in the country building circuit, rally and ski race engines.

Please elaborate why the seriously under sized stock filter is a good thing as I'm dieing to hear.
