3.0RB DEAD!!!

Postby nico » Thu Nov 12, 2009 9:43 am

Hey all,

Got down to my car this morning (MY07 3.0RB 6sp wagon) & 1st thing I noticed was my remote central locking button didn't work, so I manually unloced the car (noticing that all doors didn't unlock), turned the key in the barrel & NOTHING!

So I checked that I hadn't left any interior lights on, or doors ajar & racked my brain for anything else that could have run the battery dead flat since I parked it last night. I've come up with nothing!

I'll jump it when I get home this arvo & hopefully the alternator will recharge the battery in no time (if it's just the battery), but I still need to know what actually caused this in the 1st place...

Any ideas, or people who've had similar problems??? Cheers.

Similar scenario happened to me when my 3RB battery died. Wife went to get bread/milk at around 7:30Am, went to start it @ 8AM, dead as a doorknob.

batteries can just collapse (with respect to holding charge) without warning. That's what yours sounds like. probably only one or two cells but will require a new one. If it's the original it's probably 3 years old by now so not out of the question for it to happen

I have had the same problem once. It was a bad connection on the battery
terminal. It was tight and clean and when I brought a new battery it did the same within 2 weeks. change the connector and have never had the problem again

I've just replaced my battery (I originally purchased my car in March 2006), because it was losing capacity.
I had accidentally helped it along by running it flat a couple of times, usually by leaving one of the map lights on overnight.

Make sure you use jumper leads with an inbuilt surge suppressor, and be very careful how you connect them. It's an expensive exercise if you blow up an ECU!

BTW this is where interior LEDs are awesome I can leave all the interior lights on for hours and drop negligible charge :)

+1, I converted all my interior lighting to LEDs and have not had a flat battery since (wife or kid leaving door open). The LEDs consume less than a quarter of the power of the standard bulbs.

Kind Regards,

Mark.

Nice bandaid solution. If only other problems with the wife and kids were so easy to solve lol.

Yeah, I am also working on convertin the house lighting to LEDs to reduce my energy bill and carbon footprint, also coutesy of wife and kid leaving a trail of lights on wherever they roam. e.g. middle of the day today and the living room lights are on!!! Can you believe it? :x

Kind Regards,

Mark.

I have been having a similar problem to described earlier:

Leaving the ipod connected to the car, door open for no more than 15-20 minutes and flat battery. Likely going to invest in a new battery. But thought I'd check here first:

If water level low, will topping this up fix the problem?
Will getting an "uprated" battery make this less likely to happen? and what "strength" battery do I look for?

Get a bigger battery if your going to leave Ipods charging and doors open. Topping up the battery will help the charging capability of the battery but running car batteries flat greatly reduces their life span.

Get the biggest battery that fits in the space, I had a land cruiser battery in my last car- it was awesome

Check ur water levels in your battery.
Get distilled water, (boil your kettle, and let the water cool) and fill up all 6 cells.
