Romraider/Opensource Tuning

Postby BlackFlatSix05 » Wed Apr 22, 2009 8:44 pm

This is my first post on here other than my introduction so go easy fellas.

I've come from the land of WRX where I dabbled with Romraider flashing my own ecu a few times, logging and played with my maps with the help of others using the Romraider software.

I'd like to know if any of you fellow flat six owners are using Romraider and what alterations you have made if any to your various maps.

I've read about V-Tune from a guy in Melbourne and I'm more than familiar with ECUREK so don't even mention that.

If anyone knows what maps are being altered in the OEM rom with V tune I'd be very interested to know especially in regard to the drive by wire and throttle opening.

Thanks in advance.

David.

Hi David.

I'd be keen to follow your work with RomRaider and the 3.0R. Ihave had a V-Tune and it's much better than stock, but I'd be really keen to understand what else I could tweak myself with this software.

So, while I can not answer your question I thought I'd just post to let you know I am interested in what you discover as I am sure are others.

So please post regular updates on your findings.

Dyno Tune by Vin @ Docklands STi +10-12KW and much better response. Got a 3.0R? Do it now.

Hi Andrew

I PM'd Mickeyd2005 in the USA on the Romraider forum. He is the guru when it comes to all things relating to tuning/Romraider and was involved in creating the software. I'm pretty sure he has a Legacy GT and he has helped a guy in South Australia completely tune his 02 Wrx Sti.

Unfortunately he replied stating he was not aware of any maps available for the 3.0 engine.

If I could find out what Vin does to what areas of the Rom I could do it myself. I have a Tactrix cable and quite familiar with the software. I would not change the timing or fuel map but I'm keen on fixing the holding revs on back off problem.

I'll see if Michael South can give me any clues also. He was very helpful tuning my bugeye.

Watch this space.

David,

You have sparked my interest in the tuning of the 3.0R 5AT as I have the same vehicle. All I have done is the v-tune and quad tips with a peak power of 131Kw ATWs.

Now I am looking at reducing frictional losses by using a high quality oil in the engine, AT and diffs. All minor stuff.

The additional 10 Kw that you have achieved out of the 3.0R 5AT is impressive to me. I am also really eager to get rid of the worst "turbo lag" I have ever expereienced in a non-turbo car! The Drive By Wire throttle lacks any form of "normal" response.

So, I will be monitoring this thread and when the pennys are saved I will start investing in the latest flash gear.

Are there any basic "ECU Flashing 101" books or help files to get us up to speed on the lingo and acronyms?

Kind Regards,

Mark.

What I suggest you do is watch this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkDa7-ZbDBw which will give you some insight into logging. Then do a bit of reading on the Romraider website. You can also join the Romraider forum and download someone's rom from the website and have a play with it using the ecu editor software. I downloaded a 2.5 Impreza N/A map as I hadn't seen a non turbo rom. Believe me it's much simpler.

Sometimes, I should not browse these forums. Especially when I have not done a mod for a while. Start to get itchy :D

Boys. I'm also very interested in this thread primarily because I'm located in Brisbane and Pulse and Mr V are an overnight drive away. I know Paul from Pulse is planning to do a group tune in Brisvegas soon, but remapping the DBW lag is my key focus. I've just got my hands on a pair of HiTech Quads and am about to put a panel filter in the stock air box (maybe HKS, Apexi or K&N)... then the tune/remapping.

This is an awesome forum, I think my wife is glad I didn't find it sooner.

For the time being Pulse cannot open source tune the H6 - he uses a Haltech interceptor.

True. I'm told the new list of Definitions should be available next month :D

I drove a Pignose Wrx today fitted with a VF34 and 3"TBE tuned by Paul Fisher at Pulse Racing. The car made 202.7KW on the Pulse Racing dyno and I have to say I was VERY impressed.

Bad move really. I miss my turbo now :(

Damn you Paul Fisher. Damn you Pignose WRX.

David,

Thanks for the tip. I have been reading on the romraider site all day! :D

Is there a place to source/purchase the Tactrix cable in AU?

Mark,

I don't know of an suppliers of Tactrix Cables in AUS. I think they appear on ebay but I think the vendor is Tactrix. The only other supplier is http://www.limitless.co.nz/cables/ and if you buy one from there you save on freight being NZ not from the USA.

Cheers,
David.

Some interesting discussion here and like others before me, I'm also interested to know what is or will be available to fix up that DBW lag on the 5 AT ! Thanks in advance to those who have started and added to this thread.
