Weapon R 'Secret Weapon' RAM Air Intake

so as most of you are aware, i made purchase of my new intake a few weeks ago



i was a bit hesitant at first, as there was only one other kit floating around the forum, but no one had it installed on their car...
i took the stab, purchased the kit off eBay, the money transfer came up OKAY after a few days, then within a week of posting it turned up in my hands



i was eager to see how well, or crap, it worked and whether it was money well spent. So came the next afternoon i spent putting it on...




it took me two hours in total, just to figure out how to get the bugger on. i tried many different ways to fit it, but it just wouldnt work. almost gave up, then i had a thought... one that would eventually work.

taking the engine bay cover off, i disconnected the stock intake fully. then lined up the new intake pipe, perfect fit. then my thought "hang on, i cant fit the whole thing, i have to do it in pieces"...

Firstly, i attached the rubber connector to the black air box at the back of the engine bay, then connected and tightened up the intake pipe to the connector.
Secondly, to get the pod filter on, i put the other rubber connector onto the intake pipe and tightened up, then squeezed, rotated, jiggled the pod into place and tightened up. now it was a tight fit as the pod filter was only mm away from the fender, but the bonnet shut fine.

I took it for a good drive that night to the Kebab Meet in Mitcham, straight away the car felt more responsive, more willing to rev. i was pretty happy with it.

But, i then had a problem... "How to i connect the Cold Air upgrade?" so i took a trip down down to Super Cheap Auto and Autobarn, i found myself this...




Came home straight away to test fit it, and what do you know, the intake pipe was just mm smaller than the bend pipe i just bought, so then i was still scratching my head, thinking, becoming unhappy with my purchase... then it dawned on me, just get another little silicone connector...

this weekend that just went by, i finally installed the silicone connector and...




the fit was pretty well, and was pointing the pod filter downwards to the open, empty space which made it easier to attach and bend the Cold Air piping




*Just a note, im currently not running a foglight due to previous owners carelessness, and i have a new one coming very shortly.
With the help of 3rspecb, i will be changing the current set up so i can still run the cold air piping with a foglight

Very nicely done. Looks the goods! As long as you're happy with your mods, thats the main thing.

yeah im very happy with it i haven't had a chance to take it for a good drive yet tho,

i should note, the last things to do is wrap it in some heat reflective tape, and get a custom airbox installed

will the metal pipe alone bolt to the stock airbox position or is the outlet in a different spot?

im not quite sure, i didnt try to fit it to the stock box, but i have thought about getting a similar intake pipe made up to run with the standard box if i do get introuble for it.

could also do a 'resonectomy' and run a cold air pipe up there? if people dont like the idea of a pod filter?

As long a you're happy with it. The factory over radiator intake is fairly well perfect as is. No pressure drop measurements to go off? Would be nice to see.

Bit of clear tube and a dyed water loop thats closed on one end, connect to manifold and mark level at WOT. Then do mods and repeat and mark level. If there is less fluid draw then Grats, less vacuum and probably a touch more power.

Or you can go for a more 'race' car look and channel the duct from the right fog light and not have the fog light?

I used this intake before, the filter needs frequent cleaning (dry) so I'd suggest NOT to rush hard when weather gets bad. Also, you got to try and see what max speed can you achieve, at high speeds things go different. I know the flexable house makes it good, but how will the response act like when speeding.

One postive thing you might consider, wrap the pipe with a heat insulator (I did this, and felt the difference)..

yeah, ive been meaning to wrap it in a heat insulator for about a month now! i just have to get around to doing it

the only problem with that is finding a safe place to test the max speed of the car.

I have never gone back to factory one. Instead, I did cut around 1" just before the pipe end and replaced the filter by a bigger round K&N filter, that's to position the filter to the air duct. I changed that factory air duct by an HKS one and... easily making 255 km/h in the 4th gear!! (catless all the way SS exhaust made it great)

I believe they sell that tape in Australia at bunnings (and probably elsewhere) as tommy tape.
It's pretty damned awesome tape.

Why don't you just go out on the motorway and test at 120-130?? Tbh, if you drive any faster you're just asking for trouble.. I'd only be concerned about the performance of it at high speed if I intended on tracking the car.
