H6 Radiator

Postby dan_ashcroft » Sun Oct 31, 2021 9:36 pm

I have cracked the outlet on my radiator while tilting the engine to re-install my gearbox. Luckily enough I noticed it when running the engine for a while after re-connecting the battery, so no damage to engine. Looks fragile, to be expected after 16 years. Probably good it happened now and not when out and about.

Anyone have any recommendations for a replacement radiator? I have seen the other post re the PWR alloy rad, however I have spent close to a couple grand doing clutch, center diff rebuild, suspension bushes etc all at once so that is out of the question at the moment.

Thanks,

Try Fenix on eBay, otherwise stock is fine for around 150kkm…

Thanks Benny.

Mine is approx 240k so I guess I have been lucky to last so long. Might have been replaced earlier though I guess.

Fenix don't appear to have any at them moment so going to go with a Koyorad brand replacement off Ebay.

Cheers,

If you're handy with tools have a look at getting a gen3 outback h6 radiator. I bought a Koyo brand for less than $300, its 25mm thick instead of 16 and doesn't take much work to fit.

Need to move the top radiator mounts, make some adapters for the thermo fans and off you go. BUT you won't be able to run the over-the-radiator air intake duct..

There's some photos here if needed:

I have never seen that clear plastic bucket before, is it something to do with purging air from the radiator & cooling system?

Yes, very useful to avoid bubbles in the coolant.
